Same as mine, milk steamer is very easy to use, and the machine can be quickly cleaned after use. For pod based coffee they are hard to beat.

 

The latte and the cappucino one. Both of which I don't particularly like but I do like cappuccino coffee so it kind of makes it pointless for me. Its mostly used for hot chocolate by my daughter but even that tastes iffy.

I use a Dolce Gusto for when I'm in a hurry . . . will be getting a Gaggia Classic or Rancilio Silvia soon though for when I have more time.

I cant stand drinking in any of the main stream coffee shops in this country, they are a disgrace, I doubt the staff even know what a Barista is. My coffee's are way better than theirs.


Cant be doing with those pods, it's just the next step up from this imho

 

What a waste of money fancy coffee machines are, best cup of real coffee will come from a bialetti moca, then go to sainsburys and get some illy ground coffee for said moca, millions of italians do it this way for a reason

 

I use those too (typically when camping).

 

Another one for Nespresso here, love it. Fill with water, add milk to a separate milk heater/frother, pop in the pod, press a button and you're done.

About 30p per cup depending on the choice of pods you go for. I buy 200 on average every 6 weeks, that's £60 for an average of 4/5 cups a day.

I must have missed this thread. If you want ease of use you can’t beat a Nespresso. I was sceptical after hearing bad press about pods but took the plunge and have not looked back. No it won’t be quite as good as a properly prepared espresso made on a dedicated machine by a well practiced barista but they are faffy no matter what the geeks tell you. Nespresso is consistent, quick, mess free and takes up very little kitchen space.

I want to drink the stuff rather than sit there playing with attachments and getting excited over how fine my grinder grinds. Each to their own but I am lazy and often in a rush. As for a Nespresso machine costing 3 times more than an X7.1 – when the hell did that happen? Mine was £80 online.

As for B2C I did plenty of research on these and even with £1k machines I read plenty of problems resulting in manufacturer picking them up, repairing, sending back only for same fault to occur. All to do with the mess made by the coffee grinds internally.

I have a Senseo Machine works fab but pods restricted in flavours in the uk i buy my pods direct fom here http://stores.ebay.co.uk/food-express24?_rdc=1 works out a lot cheper than uk stuff.

 

I buy Lavazza ground coffee which goes into my mini Breville espresso machine - it even has a little **** you turn for the steam spout so you can make properly frothy lattes and the best hot chocolates known to man or beast

absolute bargain and hasnt failed me in 3 years of making coffees every day

 

nespresso... I have had 2 and will stick with them. Easy, clean, small... only downside is you miss the smell of fresh coffee.

 

I've been thinking about the pod type machines too, is it really worth buying an exPensive one when surely all they do is process the pod?
Maybe I'm a bit ignorant to the process though?

 

I spent £80 on my Krups nespresso machine. I believe they all have a 19bar pump so yes the only choice is really which design you prefer and whether you want milk frothing etc. Mine only makes coffee but has a much smaller footprint due to that (main reason I bought it). If I want to make a cappuccino I just heat milk in the microwave and use a basic manual twizzler you rotate between both your hands. Works a treat and just rinse under the tap.

The Nespresso machines which realistically are the only ones for the true coffee enthusiast all have to comply with a set of standards set out by Nespresso to allow their pods to be used. You only pay extra for more features. If you want one that just makes espressos and long coffees they're less than £100. Personally I have a Delonghi Lattissma Plus which makes perfect lattes and cappuccinos at the touch of a button as well as espresso and long but this was £250.

The system as a whole is fantastic, 16 types of coffee to choose from plus occasional special editions. We had a normal espresso machine with a milk frothing nossle and it got used maybe a couple of times a year due to the hassle of it all, cleaning it after, etc. The Nespresso machine gets used every weekend and some evenings when I fancy an eye opener after dinner

 

Only thing to be aware of is that you can only buy Nespresso capsules online or from one of their limited number of boutique stores (last time I checked a couple in london and 1 in Birmingham). Never caused me any problems but may put some off. Ordering online is easy enough but you have to order in multiples of 50. 48hr delivery costs £4.95 or free if ordering 200+ so I just band together with some work colleagues as my wife doesn’t drink coffee so I don’t go through as many to make ordering 200 feasible.

We liked it soo much and easy to get Pods the Church bought one for coffee morning and it sells like wildfire.

I will at somepoint maybe try one the the new Latissimo machines for that proper Milk frother, but jurys still out.

Just stayed at a friends house in France and they had a Nespresso (Krups) machine, the coffee was sublime. They had a normal espresso machine with steam milk frother, but it was both unreliable, and a pain to clean. They love the Krups machine, and I have to say so do I, so much so that I will be acquiring one soon. Considering we currently pay £3 a cup at Costa/Starbucks/Nero or wherever, 30p is a bargain. Hell, even those crappy Nescafe sachet Cappuccino's are 25p each. I've read that the dodgy capsules are just as good (eBay etc), and people even refill the pods although that seems a bit of a faff.

 

30p is nothing really. It's only a shame they don't drop the price even slightly if you bulk buy say 200+. But they do have to pay Clooney's wages

Amazing machine, probably my favourite toy, nothing better than creating your own blend of beans

 

You can grind your own beans or buy ground coffee, i'm an arabica man and have now discovered Bellarom gold at lidl which is 100% arabica, i add about 2 table spoons of powdered chocolate to 250g pack for a very slight hint of chocolate as a back note to the flavour, you can also experiment with your own blends until you find something to your liking.

unscrew the top and bottom halves, inside is a flat bottomed funnel type coffee receptical with perforations in it, lift it out, fill bottom with water to the line 300ml in the one i use, pop recepticle back in fill it with ground coffee, screw the top part back on, stick it on the cooker and wait 3 mins, bubbly/steamy sound and hey presto luverly coffee, and you get the smell too.

It might sound fiddly but it takes less than 1min to prep.

Only buy the hexagonal bialetti john lewis do them for around £30, i have the 6 cup/300ml version which wakes the dead if like me you drink the lot.

but i think they mean 6 tiny expresso type size cups

edit to add, they also sell the seals that keep the pressure for a couple of quid in packs of 3 you will use one every 6 months or so simple to change takes 30 sec's buy a pack then you won't have to go back to the shop for 18months, i have 2 of these one in england and one in croatia they will last a lifetime.

 

Had the Rancilio Sylvia for about 18 months and its a great piece of kit. Takes a bit of time but great results every time.
