Changed to Sti steering wheel, now airbag light is on??
UPDATE...... ALLELUIA finally I have succeeded in removing the airbag light after weeks of head scratching and posting on here I tried what daz1968 suggested and swapped the charges over from my old wrx wheel to the new Sti wheel a would you Adam and eve it, not airbag light
I can finally enjoy my new wheel
Thanks to everybody for your help with this nightmare, daz your a legend mate
Now what can I change next

glad you got there in the end mate!!
By the way just seen this from your previous post...
When you say you have cut the connectors, have you cut sections and soldered them up again? If so this is really unadvisable as solder can cause a change in resistance which can affect things with your airbag working. Hence why airbag connectors are gold plated to give minimal resistance or chance or corrosion occuring....

I'm looking at getting an sti wheel from a WR1, so from what i read you changed the bugeye clock spring and airbag charge over to the new wheel and all was well?
Do the indicators self cancel?
Do the indicators self cancel?
The indicators do self cancel as well
It took me ages to sort it due to the dodgie clock spring. I have the same steering wheel as you are looking at getting so should be the same as what I did. You will need to mod the horn wire as its mounted differently on the Sti wheel but it's only one wire and an easy fix.
As said mine was a straight swap. Not to tell you how to suck eggs but you are only trying to swap the part from the back of the airbag with the four nuts surrounding it???
What model wheel are you trying to fit as I went from a bugeye wrx wheel to a blob Sti wheel. I have heard that hawk wheels have different sized charges but not sure about classics??

Have posted a few pics of what i'm up against.

If i can change over the white clip in the WRX charge into the STI charge i think i'll be ok, just it's in there very tight and don't want to break anything.
Then i would just need to mod the horn wire.

It might fit mate but I doubt it. The charge you have on your airbag is totally different to what I had on mine. Mine was basically the same as the blob Sti one hence why it swapped over, it was just the connector for the charge that was different. Is yours an early bug as mine is one if the last bugs on a 53 plate??
yep mines a Y reg, now taking off the bottom part of the dash i can see where the cables go and think i've figured it out. Hopefully the indicators will self cancel, fingers crossed.
I'm sure i'll be back.

That would explain the difference in charges then mate. The connectors for the clock spring are just under the steering column very easy to get to. The black connector is for the horn and the yellow is the airbag. Let us know how you get on. Good luck mate
Next problem, the white plastic cover over the indicators where the spring connects too, the holes don't line up so can't fit it.
Managed to isolate the cables i need so can see where everything connects.
Guessing i may need the white plastic bit from a WR1/ blob STI?

The blob clockspring won't fit perfectly on the bug indicator white block. When I was trying to use the blob clockspring I had two of the holes lined up perfectly (top left and bottom right) I then made a new hole in the bottom left and left it at that as was secure enough. The blob indicator block you talk about won't fit your bug as the mounting holes are different, I tried that as well as I got some with the wheel I bought
when putting the wheel back on did you put a bit of grease on the spline and how tight did the nut go upto.
Not got that far yet, just waiting for the drill to charge, so i can make the extra hole.

success, have got it all hooked up and no airbag warning light just got to take it up the road and hope i've wound the clock spring back enough times, also to see if the indicators self cancel but that's not a big bother.
Thanks for your help martin, without you i would have ended up down the breakers for no reason.
Did the nut up as much as i could, how do you know whether it's got the wheel fully on to the splines. I think it is, certainly couldn't tighten it further.

I just put my standard Blob-Eye WRX Momo wheel back on the car after several months running an OMP with a resistor. Now the airbag light is on with the standard wheel! I assume I need to get a reset done? It's all definitely connected back properly with the correct procedure followed.

I would of thought the wheel would wobble if it wasn't on right.
