Extremely underwhelmed by the release. Very much doubt I'll be upgrading my 3gs to one of these. Doesn't seem to do anything that the Samsung Galaxy II doesn't already do (at much cheaper cost) and that's fairly old tech now. Will be very interesting to see what Samsung announce next week....
Iain, how on earth have you not sold your iPhone already? Are you hoping to moan so much that Apple give you an iPhone 6? I'm sure you have some sort of force field around you that breaks product.
Or do you live near f1_fan and Tony?

Before I go installing ios5 what about app compatibility? Wont the apps need an update which wont be available until next week when ios5 is officially released? No point upgrading now if all my apps start playing up or fail to work.

I can't sell it. It doesn't work properly!! I have plenty of other devices that have worked fine for years. The only two devices I've ever had trouble with really are the Xbox 360 and the iPhone 3gs. Both of which have been pretty rubbish to be honest.
I think I've a right to moan. I've got a phone that does not work properly (it hasn't since the iOS4 "upgrade"), and Apple are completely disinterested in resolving the issues. Had nothing but bad customer service from them over the last two years. Are you saying that people who have bad experiences with Apple shouldn't say so? All praise the mighty Apple, for they can do no wrong
I was looking forward to seeing the new phone (my brother has a 4, and it's much better than my 3gs), however having seen the very minor upgrades offered, the not insignificant expense, and no hint of support improvements, I think I'll give it a miss. Where is the innovation? I certainly couldn't see any. Also, the attitude of the Apple fanboys is very tiring, and to be honest it's almost getting embarrassing to admit I own an iPhone now because of them!!
Just tried an S2, and it feels so much better than my current phone (and better than my brothers 4). Most of the reviews around the web seem to agree. So, looking forward to seeing what the new Samsung model looks like next week and how it stacks up against the 4gs

I'd certainly expect updates to appear within the next week or two.
In regards to GM, it means Golden Master. In ye olde days, of, well I suppose it would start with vinyl, you'd take a press of the disk in gold and this would be the master than mass production transfers would be taken from. The idea is that once something is at the GM stage it is final. Not always the case in software terms though, as there have been GM seeds which get a tweak, or between the GM seeded to devs and the actual final release, there are minor changes.
Brilliant isn't it. Owners of iPhone 4's won't feel left out, not compelled to buy the latest version because it's got a different case, has "4G" whatever the **** that is or some other bigger number. How the tide has turned.

My daughter is 13 and says her friends think phones are cool
she still wouldn't want an iphone as she lover her Samsung Galaxy, she has even stoped playing games on her ipod in favour of the Samsung
Thanks Markus. However that is for beta 7 and I thought it had to be beta 9 to start using ios5.
My itunes is on my Windows box so although I could do the update on my osx vm it wont be any good when it comes to syncing all my data back on as I will need the Windows version of beta 9.

Well put ios5 on my ipad and so far so good other than wireless sync isn't available - it's greyed out. My pc is on and itunes is running, wired syncs work fine. Can't work out why the wireless sync is not available
