That's governed by your unusual tastes in pornography. Look at mainstream sites and you'll find fantastic quality videos working on iPad and even iPhone. As a bonus you can download the movies without the need for some virus infected downloaderer. Steve changed the **** game, Flash is the new Real Media.

Flash works fine on my HTC Desire S. I can watch all the **** I like!

There was some woman on Radio 2 yesterday afternoon saying how Apple make such super fantastic products that nobody else matches and that she would never consider buying anything else. Well you can tell the advertising campaign worked on her!

I don't hate Apple, I just don't get why many Apple owners seem to hate everything else.

I bet they slip in a few Flash adverts at the same time. You should hack your Android browser so it claims to be iOS, it'll be like a posh ****.

Anyhow, it's obvious why a lot of Apple owners hate everything else, it's because they've had a bad experience. For the last ten years Windows PC's have been a nightmare for the average consumer, it may well switch back to Windows being the easier option at some point, but it won't be soon.

Sad to see the guy have to step down. Irrespective of how you feel about apple and their products, this guy's contribution to the company has just been remarkable.

A posh ****? Is that wanking fully clothed whilst wearing a cravat? S*d that!

I feel that Apple users choosing Apple over the competition is far more to with a successful advertising campaign rather than bad experiences.

The latest adverts basically say that if you don't have this Apple product, you can't do this, or that etc. Which is complete rubbish. But people believe it. Plus they seem to have made their products 'fashionable' hence how they are able to charge such ridiculous prices. And yes, I have tried Apple products and whilst they are good, they are not spectacular.

F1_fan's link was a good read and verying interesting to hear from those who work in the industry. However, that really still doesn't address issue, whether Flash is dying out or not, there are still currently a huge number of popular Flash enabled sited that just don't work on Apple products today and despite what you might think, the fact that you can get apps to play flash content on iPad etc just demonstrates that there is still the demand for it, even from Apple users!

Flash will still be used for many years to come and by then Android devices could likely be the next biggest thing. There are projections that Android is set to command nearly half of all worldwide smartphone OS market by end of 2012. Microsoft have 72% of the PC OS market with Apple with only 7%.

Apple have been around as long, if not longer that PCs. If PCs were generally that bad, then they could have easily gone with Apple during that time. A Recent survey profiled Apple users to be more concerned with how the are perceived, ie, young, image conscious, trendy, leading edge, unique/retro, affluent, etc and not actually concerned with the technology they're using compared with a PC user. Basically they're also buying into the perceived lifestyle that goes with the Apple product. That's not a criticism BTW, everyone buys something or another to fit into a lifestyle, your car for example.

these stats change depending on where you source them, but none go above 15% for OSX's share of the desktop market.

and, how odd, that so many sites are/already have transitioned to non flash dependence so far

the sites i use with flash have ipad/iphone apps, like the bbc.

"Apple's success is due to Marketing" that's a new one.

Do you know what though, you're right, Job's is a master of marketing, he see's the market and produces a product that's both desirable to the mainstream and functionally superior to the competition. That's how you win. He's a genius.

Of course Android will be on more phones than iOS, isn't it already? It's free, any old Chinese or Taiwanese knock off merchant can install it on their hardware and Boom +1 Google. Does that make it better? Apple produces quality products that just happen to sell in quantity.

Jon, tell me what sites you can't access due to lack of Flash that you really feel a need for on your mobile device. I'll get in touch with them for you to let them know that they're missing an enormous slice of the market, do them a favour. Any content provider worth their salt is either compatible or working on it. Don't blame the device, blame the website and the web developers too lazy to move with the market.

Lifestyle perception is the key reason why Apple are so successful like you say. And as you say, that is not a criticism against Apple. But it is a dig at the 'high and mighty' Apple users that think their product is 10 years ahead of everything else which makes them 'special'. Do me a favour.

I'm not denying that some sites have move to non flash dependancy, but the fact is there are still a huge number of sites that still rely on flash, corporate and commercial. that you cannot deny. As it stands Flash is still one of the best and secure ways to deliver content to desktop browsers and works with nearly all browsers; the PC market is huge compared with Apple and many businesses will continue to use Flash for some time and that is not going to change anytime soon, benefits do not outweigh the costs. Also Adobe will not just stand idle while HTML5 takes hold, they will inevitabally make Flash more competitive to use and will continue to develope it on both desktop and mobile environments. There will be a huge growth with Android devices thanks to Google and I would say that eventually Apple may well be forced to adopt Flash because of this, made more likely due to Steve Jobs resignation.

Steve Jobs' letter to the board was supposed to say 'I reign as CEO of Apple'.

Finally Jobs utters the immortal words, "Damn you auto correct..."

Yes he is a clever man, there's no denying that, but for the love of anything non Apple, pull your head out of Jobs iHole, there is life outside of Apple utopia, I'd swear he made you, such is your devotion we should call you iJack!

Just incase you didn't already know, many Apple products, including the the iPhone and iPad, are manufactured in Taiwan and assembled in China.

Jon, no need to get personal, I'm just providing the positive to counter your negative. Name calling is childish and not appreciated.

Now, you said "As it stands Flash is still one of the best and secure ways to deliver content to desktop browsers and works with nearly all browsers" that's a crazy statement if ever I heard one. Secure and Flash in the same sentence! Installing Flash on anything instantly doubles your chance of falling prey to malicious software. I found that stat on the stats site you use.

Why not join the Flash thread and prove me wrong, no one has yet.

No way! I didn't see anything worth deleting other than the insult to me, but that doesn't count.

There's a difference between a positive counter and unbridled hero worship, and this is scoobynet so expect some ribbing on that alone!

Flash is secure if it is regularly updated. Remember Flash is installed on 99% of all internet users so I expect there would be those using this fact to exploit any holes they find, much like the case with Microsoft or any other product that has a user base on this scale. I've yet to find anyone I know of that has been victim of such flaws, not saying that they don't exist, just that if you're careful with browsing and security updated regularly, it's not an issue. iOS and OSX are no strangers to regular security patches either. You can clearly see this with the list of patches also for itunes, safari, quicktime etc on the Apple site, so its no better either.

Whilst it was an interesting read, there's no need for me to prove you wrong on the flash thread, since you've neither proved yourself right on anything you posted there or posted anything to back up your claims.

I don't espouse the wisdom of Bill Gates or Linus Torvalds or about the virtues of PC/Windows/Linux products like some sycophantic Apple evangelist I've witnessed. I understand there are limitations to the things I use. I had an iPhone4, great product (after I fitted the cover to address the design flaw for signal reception). I don't use that any more and use a Blackberry instead. Sure it has crap web browsing etc, but it meets my needs perfectly since it syncs with my work email and calendaring. Sure you can get the same for the iPhone with MobileIron, but we don't have that in place.

Windows7 works for me and is also used at my kids school, so it makes sense to keep that for them. Linux is free and works on my 5 year old laptop. If I or someone experience problems with a PC, I don't use a sledgehammer to crack a nut by advising someone to spending near enough a thousand pounds on a Mac and automatically assume it will meet my or their needs. Currently none of the Apple products are functionally superior for what I currently have my needs. It;s not like Macbooks are any better built either as they still have their fair share of hardware faults and failures. My old Thinkpad T60 is getting a bit long in the tooth so am looking the possibility of getting a new one. However, I can't see any benefits to getting a Macbook over a similarly spec'd PC laptop at a significantly lower price. But like I said earlier, I would happily buy a Macbook if they released one with a 4:3 screen!
