Whatever your position on Apple - he is a hugely influential individual who seems to be very sick.

I wish him well for the future.

 

I would imagine the only feasible explanation for his resignation would be his health. Fingers crossed it's something else though.

In the short term it wont make a huge difference , sure the stock has slid by 5% immediately after the news but come Oct, it will be back up
Short term effect on the products, none as someone said you buy from Apple not from Steve Jobs.

Shame to see him stand down but in his capacity as chairman, I guess he can still do a lot and have a big influence.

I notice the Apple haters are out already but they have to remember that this is similar to when Bill Gates stepped down. The only difference there was the fact that MS was blundering around well before Gates went.

 

Dont particularly hate apple products, just the ***** who think they are buying into some sort of elevated lifestyle by paying tomorrows prices for yesterdays technology. $rse, cough, $rse etc ad nauseum.
You will be pleased to know Apple tiddler laptop thingies are big in the skinter parts of Eastern Europe. In places where your dinner consists of the bits we cant put back into the food chain (own up MacDonalds!)

I'm not an apple hater, in fact I have several of their products.

But I'm constantly amazed at the level of fanboy support. It's almost like football supporters...and we know they are mostly half wits.

Ammusing that anyone who says anything negative or even points out a shortfall in a product is called a hater! I can't watch BBC news clips on my ipad, and that annoys me.

Why do people care about this guy? Noone seems to worry about the owners of Andrex bog roll or Tetley tea. I dont get the whole Apple fanboy stuff, and yes I have an iphone 4, to me it is just a good smartphone, nothing else. It does not make me feel like I am part of 'something'.

 

That's what the hefty premium on Apple products pays for.

Apple fans I can understand, Apple make a lot of Apple users happy. What I have trouble with are the amount of people prepared to attack Apple and Apple products, just look at this thread!

Steve Jobs loves his job and he's only stepping down because of his health - i think it's bad enough he won't be around inside a year or two.

 

i think the fanboi-ism stems from people who like their apple products. For them, they work; they're simple and effective. When others malign the product they have chosen and integrated into their life, apparently without sensible objective thought, they're offended. Those other people have effectively called them stupid for their choices.

it's the apparent lack of thought that irritates people, those that take a stance that apple is the devil and their products are over priced, constrictive sh!te for, apparently, little or no substantive reason

 

Don't you feel that you might like to have a bit of sympathy if you ever contract an incurable disease which is likely to take your life...just as a fellow human being if nothing else?

Although I have stuck with Ms software and operating systems, I have always admired his work , especially his operating system which was the first really good one and led the way while Ms followed.

I feel sorry that he has had to cope with his type of cancer which is usually incurable. I hope they can keep him going so that he can enjoy a happy retirement which he richly deserves.
