Just think about the wind resistance with the bonnet scoop alone, We all know the impreza wasn`t built for top speed, It is a rally car after all,

Anyway does anybody know what the top speed on a JDM 6 speed with shorter 5th & 6th is, lol, Gaz.

Yep thats probably correct John (Fatboy). Our Scoobs aren't ideal for high speeds purely due to airflow.

MLR 30-130 2009 we only had a 5mph wind coming from the left but when you reach 170 mph you start feeling the air that you are going through.

Bonnet scoop start to lift up, side & top window trims start peeling off, and wind noise increases a lot.

You would need some bottle to drive a lightweight Scoob at 200+ mph. I've never driven a Scoob at 200 mph but anywhere up near those speeds you would be really "driving" the thing through the turbulence I would imagine.

194.1mph in 1km, took 17.1 seconds per the Data logs. Car felt very stable at that speed.

Gearing plays a part, it is dependent on that to what your top speed is, also 360bhp but not with a front mount?
I would suggest going to a speciallist and getting the car health checked, if the ecu doesnt have a piggy back chip then its going to be no where near that sort of power (the slanty top mount is lucky to push 300bhp+ let alone 360 ), plus your injectors may well be maxxed before then (your standard car should be 250ps)
You can also ensure its got a rear foglight (that works), that you can have your speedo converted to MPH (so it reads correctly and doesnt go off the clock ) runs healthily and isnt running lean/rich/detting its little pistons to bits .

Tony
1st off it was but the converter broke still have it in the boot and i dont see how it is illagl as you dont even need a speedo by law ...... yes it dose have a pigggy back chip and it's a v2 engine thats in mine witch is 280ps out the box ..... i dont have a list of all that has been done to the car but i did take it to a rolling road when i got the car as it was claimed to be pushing 380-400bhp but turned out to be running 357.8bhp to be presice oh and it's not on a wrx intercooler it's a sti witch is bigger and has water spray witch was on none stop on the roolers FMIC is the next mod

C'mon, give us the list of mods here im trying to save you a fortune in a new engine, you can listen or you can see what happens otherwise, but im quite blunt sometimes so dont take it personally
First off, a speedo has to be converted to MPH, if you go to somewhere like Prosport in Stockport, Adgespeed, or Brian at CAMS up in Darwen etc, they can replace your speedo converter http://www.transportoffice.gov.uk/cr...20May%2009.pdf
Its section 17 you will see the legal requirement for a speedo, also a slanty tmic isnt good enough for a safe 360bhp, its not even good enough for a safe 320bhp, and thats from engine builders and mappers alike, unless you have a converted one (Rectangular), even then a classic (including the STI intercooler) isnt up to the job at over 350bhp, and your engine, unless its been totally rebuilt using forged parts, will also go pop, the v2 engine is similar to the v1 engine, ie not very good, it was 275ps out of the box also (v3 sti engine was the first "real" STI unit with a red top/280ps ecu), so I would really suggest you go and get a health check, long term det damage will cost you so speak with Andrew Carr (he's your most local mapper) and get him to check everything is running as it should be (its a damned sight cheaper than a 3k+ rebuild!!).
Also go join your local subaru group (that would be www.ladsoc.co.uk, I shall see you there ) as there is a wealth of experience in that lot
You have a lot to learn about subaru's, call this a crash course

^^ There's a spat in Shauns project thread where peeps are arguing that a tmic is ok up to 500hp

Depends on the TMIC though TX, a slanty one gives the least ammount of airflow through it, (it is a version 2 so a phase 1 engine), and compared to a new age STI intercooler it probably has less than half the coverage from the scoop? its not very good anyway, but we have seen car's like Andy F's use a tmic at circa 700+bhp, but that also isnt a slanty one

A big enough TMIC will get near to 500 bhp, Bez has a 2.5 @ 480+ but I can't persuade him that an extra 50 bhp is trapped in there...

5th in a five speed and sixth in a six speed aren't that much different... unless it's a hawkeye box, or a classic RA ( type-r ? ) !

Mine came supplied with a 155 mph limiter.

A top mount intercooler doesnt make the power its a cooler your car could be 800 bhp with a top mount, although it wont do it much good lol

On April 23, 1998, a Generation III Subaru Legacy (BH5) set a new world speed record for mass-produced turbocharged station wagons with small engines (1600 cc-2000 cc class), clocking 270.532 km/h (168.101 mph) over one kilometer on Highway 10 in La Junta, Colorado. This car was totally standard! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_...nd_motorsports

my car has an 04 Spec C (JDM) box on it so 164mph/7500rpm at Marham is an indication for you.

With a longer runway and without the terrible weather conditions we had that year it would probably have run a higher speed, but would've only increased slowly IMHO, but that was my self imposed rev limit anyway

my o4 wrx would go off the clock with circa 280bhp. 160mph on the clock but not sure how accurate and was still pulling.

Type r is supposedly 157 i believe at the limiter but the most i have seen is the needle go through 140 and i think the power fc said about 126 at donnington, so much for in car speedo's lol, could have gone a lot quicker but the brakes were non exsistant

Thank you

That will do for me, I just wondered what they were capaple of with it having the shorter gearing but at around 170mph its not that short

Dont think i`ll be trying it in a hurry though, I wonder how much fuel it would be using at that point, lol

i'm sure i do have a lot to learn but i whent for a eary car as they have fully foged engines and a closed deck block witch can take more power than a open deck block like in the v3 witch on paper is slower than the v2 also the v2 was the 1st red top only the v1 dosent have the red inlet ....... i sent the car to a scooby expert when i got the car and got them to fit the new clutch and they said it was running spot on and we're imprested at just how quick the car is also as far as i know it cant be mapped thats why it has a piggy back chip oh and just looking at the site now will and would like to come to a meet always learing

I had my 330 bhp type r hitting the limiter in 5th and the speedo said over 160 mph but it was probably about 155 mph anyway the next morning when I started my car up to set off to work the engine was knocking so it was an expensive lesson learnt. I now have 2006 uk sti box fitted and I'm curious to see what top speed it's capable of but I wont be finding out as paying for an engine rebuild wasn't nice

They arent fully forged and not all the early cars had closed deck blocks.

no they don't. better than the wrx but it is not a fully forged engine by a long shot

again they didn't all have CDBs. a CDB makes no difference at the power you are quoting.

Early STI's came with forged pistons not 'fully forged' engines, far from it chap.
And even with forged pistons the engines are still not that strong. A pal of mine had a stunning low mileage V2. Perfect history, looked after like a baby etc etc etc. He touched 145mph ONCE and that was the end of that engine.

Apart from a full strip down not much, you can check if it has a closed deck block by looking for cross hatching near the oil filter.
