Even leaving it as it is and having it mapped, you will notice a big difference and its more about the way it drives rather than just figures. It will be smoother and more responsive in each gear. Best thing I have done on mine. Next will be a decat next month and then a visit to Simon again!.

Okay yep appreciatte what you say but paying for a tweek at what £50 ever time you alter the car ie. in your case a decat is not really cost effective is it ??!!
surely beter to get the decat, fuel pump and whatever get it mapped and then thats it ??!!

Okay guys further to the above after placing an advert on here for a decat centre pipe for my 2005 blobeye been offered one from an 07 hawkeye sti, this is a picture off it :

This do the job if I dont find a decent used one ?? is there much between them , take it its just down to weld quality etc as opposed to one giving better gains than another ??

okay the bit where the sensor screws into on the above section ?? is there a sensor on the oe cat exhaust section thats on the car just now, and when changing to this new section this sensor gets removed and refitted ??
lastly - honestly !! will centre sections etc for the earlier bugeye fit the blobeye without any problems ??

Yes one from STD centre pipe fits in the decat pipe it is just a post cat sensor that in conjunction with Pre cat sensor works out if the cat is working if not it throws a cel the decat pipe usually has it mounted on a small tube out of the main exhaust flow so that it doesn't get to hot and throw up a cel

Yes if you fit sti up pipe then a sti prodrive sportcat down pipe and a second cat delete pipe will pass an Mot no problem, also if you keep your up pipe and down pipe and just fit a second cat delete it will also pass Mot, also if you leave your standard downpipe cat and fit decatted up pipe and second cat delete this will also pass, I tried all on my wrx, but I found that just following prodrive wrx spec of intercooler hose second cat delete and backbox along with a prodrive map a good set up. So if you just fit intercooler hose and second cat delete followed by a remap will be very good for little expense,

I would disagree with this. The main restriction seems to be the up-pipe rather than the downpipe. Read the test mule thread in my signature and you'll see that the manifold and up pipe gave us the biggest gains. which I would say was down to the up-pipe restriction. Plus they have a habit of collapsing, which bits of up pipe cat will soon end your turbo!

Okay thanks graham appreciatte your input on the subject, since reading your comments just wondering if I should not just book the car in for the remap, have it done as the car is just now ie. 2005 wrx with just the Blitz nur spec cat back and k+n panel filter and see how I get on with just the remap itself then if I do decide to go down the decat / sportscat route I can get this done at a later date and take the car for a tweek at £50 a time.
its against what I said in my earlier thread but to be honest when adding up the cost off a decat link pipe + new up or down pipe which when totalled up is not cheap .
not convinced at an extra what 8 BHP ?? for the rear decat link pipe I am going to notice much diference for again what is not the cheapest power gains !!
but as I say once remaped can always add at a later date.
one more question, the uprated fuel pump ie. Walbro / HRC if getting a remap with the standard oe pump would I require a map tweek if I later decided to have one fitted ??

Jono, Ive gone down the bit by bit route and have had a decent amount of fun along the way. Yes I could have jumped to where I am now, but I'm quite cautious by nature and dont regret that.
I started with a pretty simple set up - K&N panel filter, Walbro fuel pump, De-resonated centre section and TSL back box in place of the standard. This was only mapped on regular unleaded 95 RON petrol too and the change was still very noticeable as folks on here have said. Put it this way, if you went the other way and started with my mapped car, took the stuff off and went back to a standard map, you'd think something was very wrong.
It stayed at that level for about 6-9 months before other opportunities presented themselves. Ive now gone the full decat route, added a 3 port boost solenoid, STi intercooler, ported headers and its mapped for Tesco 99 RON fuel. Its a great car and is very responsive. Its worth noting that even at this level my car returns 300+ miles from every tank of fuel.
I suspect that all this is about to change as I drop the STi scoop and undertray in place, update the turbo to a VF model and add 550cc injectors.
In theory I could have done all this in one go, but Ive enjoyed working out what I was planning to do next, hunting for the parts and sticking to my budget (mostly). Ive never had a car for longer than 18 months and Ive had this 6 yrs now. I think the mods have kept it fresh and me interested and long may it continue.
It was important for me to seek assurances along the way and I'm very thankful for the help and support of my local crew - the NESF. Ive also been fortunate to have a good mapper to discuss things with in the form of Andrew Carr. Without these two solid sources it could have been a very different story, so I'd definitely advise you follow the information provided by well respected individuals. Plenty of the have been where you are now and have a collection of t-shirts to prove it.

Okay thanks mate yep appreciatte your input and have to say yes thinking more into it am probably better just getting the remap and then as I say if I decide I am looking for more get each uprated part off the exhaust system as and when funds allow !!!
just feel for now anyway the exhaust is a costly process for overall gains when compared to the remap itself, my mapper has advised that its only a tweek each upgrade requires so after the inital remap if I decide to have the decat link pipe and uprated fuel pump fitted can get this done and get a tweek on the map and at a later date have the front up / down pipes done.
at the end off the day as has been pointed out thou where does it all end ?? have bought a wrx and dont want to get to the stage where I want to spend loads off money getting it to sti spec which I why I fell that a remap on the standard car may well suit me fine.

Absolutely, it is also down to funds!. At the time I couldnt afford to do anything more, so thought I would run it with just a map for a couple of years. Its also fun to keep adding and to have driven it at various stages.

Where it ends for me Jono is the point where I'd have to make a complete step change on the car to keep going, and thats probably where I'll be after my next map. I'll will probably end up with a 340-350bhp car which will suit me very nicely - a capable motor but a decent daily drive too, as thats what it has to be. To go above that I'd have to consider new clutches, engine internals, gearboxes etc, and the law of diminishing returns is kicking in there.
At which point I might be prompted to buy a Hawkeye STi and start all over again

you'd be better off changing the up pipe to the decatted sti version and leaving the down pipe, cheaper way to do it, just paid £30 for a decat up pipe,
im in exactly the same situation right now,
bugeye wrx, decided to go the quicker spool up route
have bought so far:
prodrive 100cell downpipe
sti up pipe
wrapped the pair,
walbro fuel pump
already had the decats and prodrive exhaust fitted,
total cost so far on bits £200, then a map will see it about £5-600
also ported the up pipe and will do the same to the headers, i read this can be good for quicker spool up and torque, not bothered about bhp as i rarely see a motorway for any high end speed.
have a search of the prodrive setup

But still think much better option is source all parts for next step(VF30,VF34,V35,STi pink,3-port boost solenoid,Walbro pump) and remap and fit in once,you will save more money,like paying extra for tweak map.
How much bhp you are now running?If you are now running 260bhp,in my view its not worth for extra 20bhp at the top pay £350-£550.
Rather i would source these parts here,PH,eBay and fit in once with remap and you will have nice 320-350bhp.

Okay guys thats the RCM decat link pipe ordered which will match up with my Blitz cat back exhaust on the blob wrx already, slight change off plans, although as mentioned earlier was offered a lovely quality Hayward and Scott decat downpipe at a decent price have since decided to take the advice offered by most and change the uppipe instead, so have now advertised on here for a quality decat upipe ( are all uppipes the same size ie 2.5" or 3" dont want to end up with the wrong sized one, will it be 2.5" for the standard system ?? )
1/ will I have to heat wrap the uppipe as you would do with the downpipe , is there not heatshields there anyway ??
2/ Again does a cat back exhaust ( Blitz nur spec - baffle in ) normally give any advantage at all in terms off power over the standard oe subaru exhaust ??

If you change uppipe then either get a used sti one or get a good new one from Harvey on here as a lot if the stainless ones sold are to big on the bore and can make spool worse than your standard one. Allow half a day to fit as bolts can be awkward and access can be a bit tight to undo the bolts and you will need to drop the engine to get enough clearance to get it out.
