I had the same problem as you in mine...i did post the issue and the "fix" in May....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Resolution to this problem is as follows:

2 x 3.3ohm 0.6w resistor from Maplin's for 21p each (one for each seat.)

Place one in each clip underneath the seat.....voila...airbag light now off...!! The resistors do need a good connection though.

sorry m8 missed your post but i have ordered the 0.25 ones so see how it goes, i think it will be fine.. my problem was the 3.3Ohm and not 3.3K

Cant remember the wattage I used but it was more than that, I dont think the wattage is too critical just the air bag system needs the 3.3ohm resistor to make it believe the bags are there.

I didnt need to reset the ECU or disconnect the battery before/after - just pop in the resistors... :-)

glad you got it sorted in the end mate :-)

As you said before, i dont think the wattage is important but what is important is the resistance.

Guys I have just got a Blob STi interior to fit to my Bug WRX looking through this thread could someone clarify a few things for me.
I understand that before changing you should really disconnect the battery before unplugging and removing the airbag seats, once done you need a 3.3ohm 0.6w resister to re-connect the broken circuit in the plug????? then you can put in the new seat. right?

Also anyone know why the bugeye wrx seats have airbags in them but the sti seats don't?

Also to add to the above, I plan on keeping the airbag seats, anyone know if there would be a problem keeping them in the loft?

hi m8 you dont need to disconnect the battery but you will need to fit the resisitors before you turn the ignition back on.

you can easily remove the seats and refit then fit the resistors the cable lengths are long enough so you can work in the foot well.

as for why they have airbags in i think it was just an idea at the time and a selling point also added safety LOL

There's a plug on the bottom of the seats in Blob Eyes, but I wasn;t aware of Bugs having this.

Anyhow, the plug on the car's loom that plugs into the seat, a yellow one, just needs a resistor putting in it. Chop a little of the wire off of each end of the resistor and slide the ends into the holes on the plug. Tape it up to hold it in.

I found that bending the two wire bits on the resistor to face slightly opposite directions ensures better contact with the pins in the plug and holds it more securely.
