Bugeye Front Seats - Air Bag Light

Hi all

i have just changed the front seats but my old seats had the air bags in. I have fitted the resistor 3.3 on both sides but air bag light is on.

should have i disconnected the battery first :wonder: becuase i didnt.

Whats the solution without taking the buld out. is it a simple ecu reset

regards

Colin

Yeah m8 you need to disconnect battery for at least 20 mins you should be able to reset though :thumb:

ok i will try that :-) or get it reset if it doesnt work :-)

cheers buddy

Can you point me in the direction of where you got your resistor, i've changed the seats in my bug for ones form a P1 and have the airbag light up.

ecu reset never solved mine m8, the airbag light was on a diff. system, i managed to get a chap on here to sort it out for me, his name was sy, he has the black box to reset the thing.. dont know if he is still on here though.

I took mine out and fitted the resistors, didn't disconnect the battery and the light went out fine. Same with my steering wheel and passenger airbag - if the resistors are making a good connection they should go straight out:wonder:

Hum, i was just unlucky then:mad:

Hope u have better luck than me m8:thumb:

95turbowagon

hi m8 i used 3 x 10k resistors and twisted them together to get the 3.3K. i have loads spare if you need some.

madmerlin
my cousin has the snap on jobby, so i will get it reset with that... i have used it loads of times with all the scoobs i have had

otherwise i need SY

i soldered them :brickwall

what resistors did you use m8, if you dont mind me asking ( 3.3k 0.6W )

I would've thought that would be fine - I just pushed and taped mine in:norty:

errmm strange i will get an ecu reset and see how it goes

daz1968 11 August 2011 09:55 PM

Just in case you have wrong resistors it is 3.3ohm not 3.3k resistors and nothing should need resetting once the airbag ecu sees 3.3 ohm it will extinguish the light, I did same in my wrx, but the resistors being thin wires needed the wires folding to increase dia before pushing in the plug to make a good connection, I would say either wrong resistors or bad connection in plug

3.3ohm, 0.25w; I've given some to a couple of mates around here and they've not come back reporting any issues:wonder:

Modifications 11 August 2011 10:03 PM

hi Daz

they have been soldered so its not bad connection

i have fitted 10k x 3 twisted together which should give 3.3K, do you have a part number? or a link?

Whilst that is correct it is still 1000x the resistance the ECU is expecting to see:Suspiciou

If I have some I'll get you to PM me your address and I'll post them out, not worth that much and the paypal fees would be more than the cost of a stamp:D

sc00by_d00 11 August 2011 10:13 PM

Hi Mate,

I had the same problem as you in mine...i did post the issue and the "fix" in May....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Resolution to this problem is as follows:

2 x 3.3ohm 0.6w resistor from Maplin's for 21p each (one for each seat.)

Place one in each clip underneath the seat.....voila...airbag light now off...!! The resistors do need a good connection though.

leeturbo2000 11 August 2011 10:14 PM

Can I jump on here please, my airbag light was on when I bought the car and he did say he changed the front seats....where does the resistor go? is it something to do with the yellow plug under the seats? cheers lads

Yes, you need to bridge the terminals with 3.3ohm resistor and the light will operate as though the airbag is in-situ:thumb:

Modifications 11 August 2011 10:19 PM

yes Lee it is m8,

i just ordered 10 off so got some spare if you need. i removed the plastic surrounds then soldered the wrong resistors to the base of the crimps lol. but got the correct ones coming now so if you need some let me know :-)

Thanks JonMC, ebay has some coming in the post just hope they work LOL
