Limit on my BP trade got hit this morning, taking my profits to £64 on a £1000 account. Nice bit of luck there... where else would you get 6.4% in a couple of days.
Quite annoyed to have missed Standard Life in the 160s when I was working. It's back up above my first purchase price now!

I had both Autonomy and ARM Holdings as a sector play bought them both just after 3pm yesterday...made £11 per share on Autonomy and 20p per share on ARM.....whilst i like the sector and it is ripe for consolidation, I have to hold my hands up and say i had no idea that there was a bid from HP on its way at such a rich valuation....shame i only picked up conservative amounts, but hey i'm not going to start complaining.....
Have a good weekend folks!

I use halifax share dealing at the moment (just dabbling) but they won't let me make trades of more than £500 a day, doesn't let me set sell limits etc which, taking into account their £11.95 fee is a bit pish.
Can anyone recommend another online dealer?

I use HSBC for share dealing, although you may need a current account. But that does make buying and selling easy if you have the funds.
Moneyextra has share dealing facilities. You can also establish a portfolio, guess that could comprise 'phantom' shares.
... as long as you remember to factor in the commissions

Aug. 23 (Bloomberg) -- Newsletter writer, fund manager
Dennis Gartman selling portion of gold position bought in euros,
pounds last week after that position rose by 9.4% on avg.
* Says gold “too frothy” with 90%-95% bullish sentiment
* Says when gold moves $40-$50/oz in an instant, it is no
longer a safe investment “it is violent; it is mass
psychology incarnate and it is scary”
* Says it’s “senseless” and “non-sensical” that gold ETF
(GLD) marketcap larger than SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY) and
happens “after periods of euphoric rises in prices”
* Expects GLD marketcap to slip below SPY soon either
because gold falls or stocks rise
* Compares GLD marketcap exceeding SPY to other bubble
markets such as when land under Japanese Imperial Palace
worth more than all of California or Petsmart marketcap
higher than GM
* Says bearish of stocks but expects rally to take S&P futures
to 1175-1180, will open short position then (NOTE: futures
at 1140 currently)
* Opening position in Nov. soybeans {S X1 comdty DES <go>},
Dec. corn {C Z1 comdty DES <go>}
* Says Hurricane Irene has potential to damage crops in
Georgia & Carolinas putting bid into corn, beans
* Says crop conditions worsening in Iowa, Illinios
* Says will add to position if soybeans rally above
$14.10, corn above $7.50

Like I say, I only dabble so I'd want to do £500 or so. The account was set up by the place I used to work as their sharesave scheme was through them.
