May I just categorically add that there is no issue with the hardware or software of the Simtek on any firmware version to be able to make it start and idle like OEM, if not better.

I had a time attack car over the weekend being mapped on 2000cc injectors. It was running with the OEM Ecu which I must add hunted on idle due closed loop control being too fierce with the injectors. After the Simtek was fitted it took two compressions to fire and idle with almost no changes other than scaling the fueling map. A further 5 mins work on the idle brought a steady 1050rpm with no bounce after being revved.

Any queries regarding idling and starting should be referred to your mapper. If they can't sort it then give me a bell.

I've also heard/read of issues regarding the simtek.

As somebody said earlier, you get what you pay for.
When you pay the extra for the likes of sivecs or Motec you know there will be no issues. I run a Motec M48 pro and it's a fantastic bit of kit but next time I'll be going down the sivecs route.

Also, to the OP. May be worth considering some larger injectors,

i think sim tec is a dam good ecu and for the money i just think the one thing it lacks is the knock control, and this means the mapper has to build in safety but really i think sim tec should get this sorted now even if they charge a bit of money for the extra software i would pay it if it was a fair pirce not a stupid price

Since snake1906 (if you are using the same user name you are Steve McC?) has posted up some very derogatory comments I thought a few words would be useful.

His car was mapped back in October 2010, since then I have personally not been made aware of any issues at all assuming my email track etc is intact. So I was somewhat bemused when I had a phone call to point me to look at this.

He runs an uprated engine (2.1) on a VF28 turbo and std injectors with a V Power/tesco map and meth map.

I am booked (not by Steve) to look at the car again next Friday ... but i was not going to take a fire extinguisher since the request is to remap the car to accommodate some new mods.

They are RCM450 turbo and 740cc injectors, no mention of any other issue.

I assume, for example, that Steve has been diligent when switching from meth to plain pump fuel and not getting the mix level wrong in the tank, for example putting the meth in before driving to the fuel station is a big no no.

Its unfortunate that I am not going to be able to "sort this out" since Steve is taking his car to be upgraded in advance of my arrival. Steve's post implies to the contrary giving the impression that he has complained and that my visit is a reaction.

For clarity the work is being carried out in Ledbury which is where I will do the mapping.

Still I'm sure he will explain when we meet up next week so that any niggles can be taken into account.

cheers all

bob

lol, admitadly that true, just thought id add my 2p's worth
Jura, cold idle is a settings thing and is not a problem when set up correctly, mine will tick over very well from a cold start and has no idle control vale at the moment, my plan is to use a solenoid valve to give a fast idle below 50 deg coolant temp, all ecu controlled of course
