this is another clip from a well respected Turbo supplier

"When the boost is increased on a modified turbo car, the standard dump valve usually cannot cope with the extra air it has to release when the throttle is shut. This can lead to permanent damage to the turbo as the air is forced back through the inlet blades. BLITZ performance piston-type dump valves are designed for modified engines up to 750 BHP."

Perhaps I need to go back through the thread and preface all my dump valve comments with "on my car" I'm obviously never going to convince some people nothing new there I suppose. Amusing thing is, the 'non believers' are usually the ones that ask "how's that thing so fast ? " Not enough shiny bits on it

I cant see how that figure of 305 hp atw can possibly be correct thats 227 KW atw for one the standard injectors would be struggling if not maxed out and also what turbo did it make that power with? We have stroked 2.2 engines running big turbos which cant put out that much at the wheel HP you sure it wasnt crankshaft power?

LOL!

Well, maybe the Scottish horsepower is even better than the American one....

How ironic that someone says your car must be making less HP than you claim.

You can't please everyone.

From the golden oldies archive: this thread has some more info on our beloved dumpvalves: http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...ThreadID=28135

I think no one disputes the fact that at least the turbo bearing gets some serious shocks when not running a dumpvalve BTW.

One other thing: the standard recirc DV does a very fine job at part throttle preventing pressure differences pre & post throttle body, where as I found that some aftermarket ones don't.

Thumbs up

Nice one Theo

I think what we need is a 'switchable' dump valve ! It can operate as a normal dump valve to protect the turbo and give the smooth throttle control around town/wife driving/slippy surface etc ...........then be switched off to give maximum reponse for 'pursuit' work

Penny drops I've just thought how I could do this !!.....off to garage.........

Perhaps the decimal place was in the wrong place in his post?

Should be fairly easy to do a switchable one really.. although you might have to insert a bit of cork into the end of a pipe to switch it off

Blow up doll ?? (100 of them )

Pavlo, switching of the vac line signal between pre and post throttle valve will swap its operation between normal and always closed One wee solenoid required............ ooh that's handy, std boost control sol valve isn't doing anything sitting on the shelf

he has not said no to the sti7 gearbox yet....(sorry just re read and he did. to me)

having said that knowing him he has probably managed to find a crash damaged P1 for that price which he will have running in 2 months

however he could have got sti7 engine, gearbox, running gear and ecu with loom?????

To any doubters about Andy's power figures, he flies by my hybrid VF setup (bit "bigger" than a VF23) at 1.4 bar at least as quick as I do past a decatted UK car. Simply astonishing performance. We have logged power figures on road using the same equipment and he got about 50 wheel horse power over my 255 BHP ATW.

Cool

(slight aside again, sorry)

Duczz (sp?)

You wrote: "this is another clip from a well respected Turbo supplier "When the boost is increased on a modified turbo car, the standard ... <snip> ...engines up to 750 BHP." "

That text is _exactly_ the same text you will find on the blitz tuning site where blitz are talking about the dumpvalve units that blitz can sell to you, which, in my opinion, makes it somewhat biased rather than an truely objective independent opinion.

PS: Having tried the no-bov trick myself, I concur that running without a bov did indeed increase throttle response and reduce lag on my car (hybrid IHI turbo).
