not much use to me as I cant map engines... and im sure a rolling road operator wont want to mess with a hex file... but they may hopefully if I get get this program to work and show everything in deg. btdc etc... Still strugling with the offsets though... should they be prefixed with 3 or 4 etc???

Going to take v studio .net home and install at home and have another go.

WHOA WHOA WHOA?
Someone mention an emulator? For diddling with the Subaru Factory ECU? From a laptop? IN the car?

Do you have any idea what that could do to your popularity?

David....I am an IT type dude too (I read your CV....snap! lol) but you are a mechanical meister. I have been trying to write an ECU 'diddler' for my UK Legacy Turbo and also build my own induction kit. But my welding sucks.

I salute your efforts! Keep it up!

Don't worry David, most mappers are used to a hex editor and a list of addresses.

ooh... that might be interesting then... although I am writing a program that lets you specify degrees... and mmhg or psi... this then writes the hex files...

suppose I could just make it do conversions as well..

Just spotted that this has turned from a FMIC thread into banter about our up an coming product.

Good to see we've got a few punters out there guys....

I shall be ordering some 27C512's Monday, so will hopefully have an adaptor ready to go with base code later in the week.

As mine is already running base code on a 27C1028, I should be able to tell if all is OK, although I'm not sure I wanna be 1st in the que.

In an effort to prevent Thread Hijacking from Dave's (awesome) FMIC efforts, can someone involved start a thread on this ECU project?

cos me (and I bet about a million other tweakers) would love to know more about it, especially as I have been looking at the exorbitant amount of cash required for a Link ECU and trying to find a good way to persuade my (ahem) financial advisor.

Esp when my insurance just weighed in at £2500 TPFT

Questions questions questions! Are we talking pure software or a piggy back soloution, or a small piggyback onto the ECU to make it accept new code & RS232 and stuff or...or...or...

Will I be able to do data logging? ( I kind of do it with my multimeter which has an RS232 port at the moment )

Anyway..yeah...new thread or website or something?
Please?

Turbo Steve,

We will post a thread and details of a dedicated web-site once we are up and running.

At the moment we are testing/building things ourselves before we go open source.....

Current MAP will increase boost for Pre97 UK & WRX to 13.5/14psi, and improve mid-range response. Information will be provided on the MAP characteristics that will enable you to create your own MAP and increase Boost as required on a DIY bassis.

Emulation of the chip is also currently being considered, but is still in an early stgae of development.

Please be patient.....

cheers.....

erm I would just like to add that I am not considering putting nitrous on the subaru

Going to hack the flange of the downpipe today.. Just need to get hold of the plasma cutter

Awaiting some information from the man in the know about downpipes... but for some reason he replied to my email at 20:37 saying he's off to bed... Lightweight...

Anyway back on track...

Will take std d/pipe off and finish flowing headers...

Still awaiting an up pipe.. so wont fit downpiipe until then...

will also tap inlet today... but that cant go back on until andy finds some spacer material... or puts it in the post

A number of people said that If I offered this to true grip, i'd get free sidc membership... anybody care to comment?

David

New pictures... at last I hear you shout...

Started hacking the flange of with an angle grinder and a hacksaw... the flange isnt as scratched as it looks... will clean up easily... Should get my hands on the plasma cutter this week so Ill cut that out... then make it open necked.. Need to get another pub bottle for my mig though... may go for an argon / co2 based shield gas this time though... but that involves renting bottles

Should hopefully have a new account sorted with the snap on man this week... so more money on tools

Looks like an HKS downpipe or summint.

Interestingly I checked out a F1 engine yesterday, and noticed that on the the manifold they have a profile similar to the downpipe pictured above. That is an increase to larger diameter about 150mm after the flange. I would say diameter goes from 50mm to 65. I couldn't see whether it tapered back down gradually though, didn't appear to.

I am wondering if this is using the non-return theory etc, to stop pulses going back into the head.

The engine also uses individual cylinder fuelling, igniton timing AND cam timing, temp probe and lamba bosses on every cylinder.

I think the main reason hks have probably done it is there isnt much room free if you use 3"

David.. the saga continues!!!!
picked up my alluminium tubing today and my i/c, quite chuffed with the price he gave me 4.5m of 2inch 1.5mm thick tubing plus blanking and reporting my gtir i/c for £60... £50 for the i/c originally and now £2000 for the samco's LOL...
My million dollar questions are firstly: how much did you drop the radiator? and secondly: how did you find the service from hose direct?? what sort of time scale did you you get??
Cheers mate
Rob
p.s. hopefully selling my aircon will cover half the costs and thanks for reminding me about the dump valve port on the pipework
p.p.s. i'm gonna hopefully get away with welding as much of the pipework as i can so that my hose order aint to large

edited cause i dont know the difference between one and two questions

im seriously worried about my rad... but fckit may make a guard some time soon... car is going to have coilovers fitted sometime soon...

Ill measure my samco tonight if I remember... I dropped the radiator by drilling the spot welds out of the brackets and then rewelding them on lower down... I still need to fabricate some top brackets...

Didnt use hose direct, I used rally design.. www.raldes.co.uk or similar.. dont forget that you need samco somewhere to allow for the rock in the engine..

David
