i aksed them to sort the problem.

they told me i needed a new headgasket and recommended i got the cambelt, thermostat, rad, water pump and then clutch so i did it all. he said he spoke to subaru and they stated to save money if i just ordered the gaskets and inlet manifolds that would be fine as the seals would probs be ok. so i listened and did exactly that.

i am guessing that not replacing any of the seals has caused this and thats the reason oil is leaking into the coolant,

please bare with me as when it comes to cars i have no clue. i am slowly learning but i may come across dumb in my questions but unlessthis happens to you its not something i would do much research on

Reminds me of Time a chap bought nearly nine litres of oil from the shop I was working in and still said the dip stick was dry. Found him putting it in the petrol tank! Ouch!

Ok, if he's given you any sort of receipt for the work there is a legal argument to say his work was not fit for purpose and he let a car in a dangerous condition, no oil, leave the garage. A second garage stating in their"professional" opinion the other garage did faulty workmanship might give credence to a point in the small claims court..
God luck anyway..

Unfortunately you are in a catch 22 position; ideally you should take the car to a specialist BUT as well you want the repair carried out at no cost to yourself meaning that you are tied to the first garage you used (provided of course that they agree they are liable).

Do you have any proof of the first garage carrying out the work? As it was a cash job I dare say they didn't give you an invoice or receipt.

I really don't envy you at all but I hope you get it sorted out.

the seal between water and oil is the head gasket..

Oh yeah, just a thought and only delivered in the spirit of a local magistrate.... Should you get to court, never state you "need" the car (as you did earlier)
Whatever it means to you, or the reality that it is needed, the courts see cars as a luxury item and not Necessity... Id really play on the fact your family was driving around in a dangerous vehicle totally unaware...
Seriously best wishes...

I think you need to do a bit of research a little more into the workings of a engine. and in this case focus on subarus...

It will help you have a little better understanding of your current issue and if a long term subaru owner then its a worthwhile knowledge..

yuor "quote" i really need this to be the garages fault" well in my opinion as said i really dont believe it is..

No offence to you in a personal manner but replying in a thread opinion, its a classic case of a -try blame someone else to pay for repairs- to a high maintainence vehicle.

Nearly questioning from replies if op is genuine poster?

Not been funny but in the previous thread 7.5 litres of oil was used in under 400 miles with no obvious leaks and no smoke. That is not a headgasket problem and with no smoke its hard to see what the hell it is, im afraid to say imo you dont have a leg to stand on and you really need to bite the bullet and have the engine tested properly.

what test do i need to get done?

compression test anything else?

i am guessing it could literally be a number of things so the engine needs to be stripped to find out.

so happy i get to waste another 2k. yey

You need to get a leak down test done, this can be done with the engine in and will tell you all you need to know .If it fails this its all down hill im afraid engine rebuild time again

The moral of the story is, you cut corners and took a gamble, the gamble did not pay off.
I would park it up buy a cheap runner to get around in and get a specialist to rebuild it when funds are avalible properly. using that amount of oil is bad im affraid your engine has had it and there is no cheap quick fix.
