Write off - even the guys in storage yard it was taken to have told me that.

The chassis rail has been bent in and being bonded aluminium I understand it can't be repaired to its former strength.
I paid £35k for it and they're still selling for that (and there's only 3 or 4 for sale at the moment).

zip, you will be lucky to get a 50/50 judgement for all the reasons you ahve ponted out. Man in sportscar vs. pregnant lady in Merc.

If it's any consolation you were unlucky with your impact damage. I had a very similar accident in Novembver 2007 in my Elise - was hit by a suspected drunk driver who fled the scene with a car barely driveable and was never caught. My Elise was written off with similar damage to yours although the front end took more of a beating when it speared into the wall at the side of the road. I luckily walked away with a few scratches and would have to say they are pretty good in an accieent when you take intoaccount they are small so you are always going to be nearer the accident if you get what I mean.

Good luck with your recovery.... and keep your chin up

Glad your Ok (ish) Zip and wish you a speedy recovery physically and mentally. It might be a silly question but what NCAP safety rating to these cars get?

Looks like a right sorry mess, glad to hear you are by on large ok though!

The merits of having more substance around you must be noted......time to get yourself down to the GTR dealership

The engine/transmission is all that's left, IMHO.

P.S. Quite likely to be bodged if it's that new, and some poor sod will end up fleeced, unless the insurance company have it crushed

Doubt it will be tbh as fixing the chassis is hugely expensive and with the way the car is contructed bodging it would be very difficult. Then there is the 'calm' shell whicn in this case a new one is needed .. again very very expensive and only obtainable from Lotus.

A Lotus mechanic bought my Elise off the salvage company after calling me first to find out the history etc. Even he said it would be touch and go as to whether it was worth repairing even with his labour being free (as he was doing it) and reduced parts prices hence why he wanted the history etc.

Glad you're ok zip, just seen this thread, sounds like a horrific experience thankfully I've never been in.

I wouldn't underestimate your Lotus BTW, you are still alive after all - I know that sounds crap but it's true, and with a mid-engined car at least you don't have a heavy motor that going to ram through the fire-wall into your legs.

Lots of the country lanes in Cheshire (near me) will barely accommodate two cars side to side, it's scary how some Drivers charge about in their barges like they own the road.

As someone who has driven a lot of small cars (Caterhams etc) even in bright yellow people sometimes dont see you. They will be looking over your car. Could be what happened.

As for the Exige, sorry to see that. Sounds like its done more mental than physical damage to yourself. You have to get over these things as quickly as you can. In the past I have crashed one race car, got stright back into the spare car and gone back out within half an hour. If you stop and sit down and start thinking about it you will struggle to get back into the groove.

Hope this helps, its not easy to get over a big bump like that but I would look at the positives and then get yourself into another car.

But I couldn't, and Zip isn't in a position to either, unless he has an auto in his collection.

Very nasty just glad everyone is OK And looking at the pics relatively unhurt. Could have been much worse.

The cars cane be replaced.

Echo all above - nasty smash tbh.

If the bonding's been compromised, then bin it. My Dad spend the last years of his working life involved in the bonding process (a company called "Granges Techform/Raufoss Automotive") - he was in charge of the process from a QA perspective. They also did the DB9 Very impressive process imho.

Glad you're ok (ish)

Sorry to see those pics! Stunning Exige!

I sold my S2 111s last weekend and replaced it with the Scooby.

Looking at the damage, my guess would be that will be a Cat B. You can re-chasis an elise, the chassis are around £3.5k from Louts, but there is so little left on the front.
