How did you get on in the end with the plates mate? I have the same issue and it's driving me mad.

The plates never did arrive my car is getting a motor installed and has been off the road since the start of August, should be back on the road by mid October, will be dealing with the brakes then

had similar problem thought it was the mintex pads but turned out the pads were sticking in the calipers and not releasing, nothing wrong just too tight a fit (the edges of the pads against the caliper walls) i filed the pad backing plate edges down till the pads went in very easily and silence....even with mintex the squealiest of pads

 

I've have exactly the same problem. Only squeals under moderate braking on my 2001 bug wagon like when pulling up to traffic lights etc. Mines got new discs and pads all round and even refurbed calipers on the front. Though I have to say I've heard the pads rubbing on the discs while I've had the window down so I agree with oobyJu, I think the pads are sticking and are just a tight fit against the discs. Will have a look this weekend.
