Seen that site before which is why I was so happy with my cars times! I knew the 16.1 is crap but equally I'd say my 15.3 is a bit too good! I should think an average VTS with a joe soap driver should achieve about 15.6 on average.
Thought I would get my old times out.

A lot of it is down to practice and how brutal you are with the clutch and gearchange. The reaction time is not included in the time and only comes into play in a head to head where the driver who's first past the post wins, even with a slower time.I regularly get 0.5-0.8s reaction times with a best of 0.403(record for York last year)and this can give a big advantage when racing a faster car.My best in my gtir was 13.6@99mph on a pretty standard car,I'm expecting high 12s-low 13s this year.
Saxoboy-I've seen plenty of scoobys crack 14s at York, some of them UK models so don't panic.

Okay lets sort this
http://www.fantasycars.com/derek/quartmile.html
Plugged in scoob stats
Classic MY99 UK 215bhp and 2700lbs = 14.39 second 1/4 mile
Classic P1/STI 276bhp and 2830lbs = 13.45 second 1/4 mile
New STI 265bhp and 3230 = 14.25 second 1/4 mile
New WRX 215bhp and 3040 = 14.97 second 1/4 mile
Now the Saxo is a bit tricky 120bhp but is rated as 130bhp/ton so doing a bit of nifty calculator work we are looking at 941kgs/2070lbs
So Saxo VTS 120bhp and 2070 = 15.99 second 1/4 mile
So there you go buy a classic STI or P1
.
Oh and before you go on about transmission losses and 4wd grip I know, I know but surely 4wd grip would negate transmission losses
.
Just did my RA 276 and 2700 = 13.2 seconds
and without the need for a new clutch
Cheers

I've not got that big a hangup about 1/4 miles. I just keep forgeting how good it feels to be in/drive a scooby and when I forget that special feeling I have to turn to the stats to keep my interested - therein lies the problem cause 1/4 mile stats don't really reflect what the scooby is all about.
Think I'll got to bed tonight saying 'wet leaves on the road......off camber corners........gravel....etc' and I'll wake up with more of an appreciation for the scooby
Can't do bikes, I'd end up killing myself! Besides it's not as much fun to hang on as to be thumped into a seat

Used to have a saxo vts janspeed exhaust and piperx induction kit ran three times up santa pod 16.3 fastest time which was 2 seconds faster than saxo vtr i was up against. Now have a uk300 and it will slaughter my old saxo.

Rich sounds like your Saxo went like a bag of hammers if that's all it could do after modification!
Cossie that posting had me floored with laughter! To be honest I think first gear has a little less 'a's in it!

figures for standard vts are 16.1 for 1/4 mile,i think my piperx was getting to hot slowing my time down but only by half a second.A standard vts has no chance against a standard scooby, its only when you start spending large dosh on your saxo that you can start getting near the performance of a scooby.I wouldn't have gone to lad to get my engine work done though as they never seem to get bhp figures right.

Ah cold air! My VTS can't get enough of the stuff, the performace difference between summer and winter is very noticeable. What gave you the idea I though the Saxo could keep up with a scooby? A bogo standard scooby running on NUL or perhaps even paraffin with a fat git behind the wheel wouldn't be massivly quicker than one of my VTS's best runs though. When I get the scooby I'll be aiming to crack the 14s barrier with some carful modification and TLC.
Kenny, if you are expecting to achieve what Cosie has done with a Scooby as your daily driver with long term reliability for the same price you will be bitterly disappointed. Cosie's car is fabulous, but he runs virtually everything well beyond its rated spec, which in my opinion if it is a daily driver is not sensible - his is not a daily driver. You will also not find any sane tuner willing to push it anything like that far for you so you will have to do it all yourself. I could easily turn up my car in about 5 minutes to double standard boost and get a very nice 1/4 mile time (when you came out in my car boost was +45% on standard). It probably wouldn't actually blow up straight away - some cars have run this boost for several months without blowing up - but it is not what I would do unless I wanted to earmark cash for a new engine and have it sitting in my back pocket!
If you wanted a much higher long term reliability of Cosies car you would have to spec it like Craig did at great expense.
Out the box Scoobies are not fast in a straight line. They are not very tunable compared with almost anything else. However, they MY99 does come as quite a good all rounder for reasonable money second hand. It has phenomenal traction and a low centre of gravity. These seem far more striking than the power, but what power you have you can put down.

Saxo, a good exhaust and a bit of abuse to the car and low 13's are possible
but think of how the car will feel at the end of it (and im talking uk turbo here!!) ive clocked a 13.92 in my MY00 PPP and i was ballsing up the start
its possible and acheivable

Don't worry John I was joking! I cover 20-25000 miles a year so any scooby I get needs to be conservativly tuned with long term reliability in mind. Still would like to dip below the 14 seconds but I'm sure that is achieveable without risking engine death.
Saxoboy times are quite deceiving on a 1/4 mile.So you've done a 15.3(I think that's what you said),if you raced a car capable of 14s or evn 13s then it's a massive difference. If that car carried on after the 1/4 until 15.3s and the distance was measured it would be about another 50-100 yards in front of your saxo.A second is a long time in a 1/4.I,ve raced amongst other things,a nova turbo diesel LOL and it it finished in about 17ish secs-I finished in about 14s and was literally 1/8mile in front-the second half of the 1/4 is far quicker than the first.
Compare 0-100 times I would say. P1 can usually sneak under 13 as can a moderately modded UK car - a standard UK being about 14.5.
Also I actually think 0-60 is not a terribly bad test - although it depends on how you abuse the car, but it gives a very good idea of traction and performance at road speeds - say on twisties. Standard UK best is about 5.2, PPP is about 5.0, further mods or a P1 and you are maybe looking at 4.8. 30-70 times are similar on a Scooby, and a lot less driver dependent.
As pointed out before even 0.5 second off a quarter mile represents a massive difference in power to weight ratio.

I think owners of the Impreza turbo 2000's are just taking it easy on the car if they are getting +14 times. "When I was a lad" and had a scoob MY99's and MY00's were all getting 13.7's to 13.9's. Even standard cars were going under 14. Stef even got CK1 down to 13.2 ish.
The new model is well, just to heavy.
Lets also remember it takes alot of power to make small increases in time at Santa Pod.
Best times were Santa Pod 13.723@100mph and Trax99 5.374 0-60. MY99 with backbox and panel filter.
I got a GSX-R 600 now and the Pod beckons
