Too many vested intersts in this, at one point he 'fled to the airport' not even stopping for his phone, Then it is alleged that he actually phoned the hotel and asked them to send his phone to the airport, thats how the police knew where he was. He apparently raped this woman, went to lunch with a friend then headed off to the airport. Whole thing seems odd, he is either innocent or a complete sociopath who needs to be locked up for a long time. The issue I have is that the IMF has had a political agenda for years and its main job has been to force struggling nations to accept free market economics.
With him being a socialist both Sarkozy and the Yanks have a very strong interest in getting rid of him.

As much as there are many people who would like to see him out of action, I still find it hard to think he is innocent. However I can also see it from both sides, DNA evidence does not prove it was rape, it just proves that they did have sex.

I would have thought that a naked man terrorising a woman in the hallways of a new York hotel might have been seen or heard by someone or caught on CCTV?

For all the conspiracy the guy does have significant previous, including an affair with one of his staff that should have had him kicked out to start with.

Yes, exactly, he has a history of this type of behaviour.

But I still think it's going to be a difficult case to prove. Rape cases usually are, especially under these circumstances. It a simple case of one word against another, unless there can be other evidence to actually prove he did it.

I will be suprised if they convict him 'because she said so'.

He allegedly attempted to rape his daughters best friend nine years ago, and another journalist has described a physically aggressive 'chatting up'. Like Tiger I am sure there is plenty more to come!

I totally agree with you, he is obviously a scumbag! I'm just outlining how the court will see it.

I hope he goes down. He obviously deserves it.

If there was a struggle then easier to prove - he may have scratches and she will have his skin (DNA) under her nails etc.

Remember the prosecution just have to convince a jury, it's not an scientific exercise in 100% proof.

Yes that's how it works, let's hope it's all done properly, no bribes etc.

when boiled down -- it looks like

big powerfull man forces himself one young attractive powerless girl

like so many brought down by hubris -- I suspect he just assumed he would get away with it

it looks like he has done in the past

Which is completely insane. I have no idea how anyone can think they have so much power as to do that and not get caught. Or to think it doesn't matter if you get caught. You can do that if you run a cartel and you are in a friendly location, not the head of the IMF in a hotel.

On the other hand it IS easy to set up a big powerful man, as arrogance naturally assumes that the attractive young girl wants him ...

The evidence must be pretty strong since the judge would not allow him bail so he is being kept in chokey.

The latest is that this is not the first chambermaid in that hotel - they just cover it up. A little gift and move on.

This is going to be a very big smear on the French - where the cinq a sept culture has been prevalent so long - but a serial sexual harrasser/assaulter being uncovered in such high office is not as acceptable.

a few weeks ago DSK said in an interview to French press that he could be the victim of a honey trap in which his political opposition may bride a woman to claim she was raped.....

On a side note- i have a french consultant and he was nosing around yesterday and said this sort of behaviour in France is less serious than a speeding ticket.....now that was obviously said slightly tongue in cheek but he did conclude that it was very much only a mister meaner....pretty shocking!

We shall just have to see what comes out in the wash.

He did look miserable in court today, very poorly placed at the moment.

If the guy had just gone to Lemmy for a little moral guidance, he'd never have gotten into the mess he's in now

Either was this stinks for France.

A) He did it and the French political system and media are complicit in covering his tracks...

B) He was set up and the French political systems stinks...

Yeah because the free market doesn't work right? All these little countries would be so rich w/out trade?

I think it is very likely that politicos who rise to such levels do have sociopathic traits but that doesn't mean he is a rapist though.

In developing nations the free market does not work it destroys the economy and leads to MASSIVE gaps between rich and poor. Besides the point that America pescribes far stricter free market terms on other nations than it is prepared to swallow for itself.

Really? According to a recent poll, 57% of them think he's the victim of a setup.

I don't doubt people in the Sarkozy camp must be loving it, but then again you could hardly expect them not to.

That is just leftist propaganda.

Capitalism is a churning force, it's dynamic....old elites and economic orders go down.

The only alternative to that is state planning and that fails again and again.

Besides your primitivist utopias never existed. Look at say the feudal systems in India etc, you had huge gaps between rich and poor.

the fact that "free markets" have, to some extend, failed the developing countries is self evident, surely, granted it delivers winners and losers, and a winner does pretty well I will agree

what about corporatism?

Most of the developing worlds failings can be put down to bad local elites and also nativist policies which means too many mouths to feed.

Free trade enriches as history shows.

It is hard to think of a more likely way to catch AIDS than unprotected (in particular forced) **** sex.

It could also be a very clever way for a sexual predator to ensure his tracks are covered in advance in case he goes of the rails.....
