Head of IMF : Sex Charge : Why?

The head of IMF has just been arrested for sexually assaulting a maid (here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-13402845 ).

Unless it was a set-up, why would you do this? There is no chance of not getting found out and he has lots of money and it is easy to find other ways to satisfy any urge that he may have had.

Extremely bizarre.

Sexual assaults do happen though. I don't think his job makes him not a rapist.

It does sound a bit odd, and he was planning on running for French President in 2012..

"He was expected to seek his party's nomination for the 2012 presidential election. Last week he complained that Mr Sarkozy had mounted a “smear campaign” against him and his lifestyle."

David Lock 15 May 2011 12:10 PM

He is French of course...........

Lee247 15 May 2011 12:13 PM

He obviously thinks he is so important and above the law.
Will be interesting to see how this turns out

hodgy0_2 15 May 2011 01:16 PM

nothing about this sex scandal will preclude him from running for high office in France - as DL points out he is French

however, his chances (as a socialist) were dented when he was spotted getting into a friends 87k Porsche, the French take left wing politics very seriously.

also you have to be very careful of the "why would he/she" approach to these sorts of stories

I remember a well respected cricket journo giving the same defence about Hansie Cronje. (the SA cricket captian - convicted of insider betting and fraud).

The arguement was that "why would he agree to throw a game for a couple of quid -- he is very rich and respected afterall"

well the answer was he was greedy -- and I suspect Strauss Khan thinks with his c0ck, people are people after all - their sh1t still stinks like the rest of us

boxst 15 May 2011 08:14 PM

Mmmm. Conspiracy theorists off you go. To me it looks like a set-up ..

According to an account the woman provided to police, Strauss-Kahn emerged from the bathroom naked, chased her down a hallway and pulled her into a bedroom, where he began to sexually assault her. She said she fought him off, then he dragged her into the bathroom, where he forced her to perform oral sex on him and tried to remove her underwear. The woman was able to break free again and escaped the room and told hotel staff what had happened, authorities said. They called police.

Hmmm. Now, question for the women here (or blokes that bat that way .... :Suspiciou ) if you're giving head to someone under "duress" like here, would not your first thought be to bite hard? I mean, as a bloke, if someone bit down that hard then there is no way I'd then be a threat to anyone ...

So, yes. Sounds dodgy to me ...

Sounds like a set-up to me. Of course Sarkozy's not worried about Strauss-Kahn beating him in the presidential elections ;)

There are plenty of examples of rich people doing whatever they want. But in the same way it doesnt make him guilty just because he is rich.

She'd obviously never seen the Shawshank Redemption :)

Interesting article in the DT today - sounds like he has serious form and a big problem controlling himself around women. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...roversies.html

I didn't see where it mentioned the specifics about the assault. Did she give him oral sex forced or consenting?

From someone who has sadly been in that position it's not as simple as bite his dick off. If you have already been assaulted and hurt than you wouldn't really want to do anything else that might result in you getting hurt more or worse.

Not much else to say on that.

Leslie 16 May 2011 10:59 AM

Well we dont know if he did it or it was a setup yet. Certainly seems like a very unwise thing to do unless she led him on deliberately.

Well if he is guilty whilst one could argue that it's a private matter it is slightly worrying that a man in charge of part of the world economy could make such an insanely stupid decision however much his hormones were itching for action.

Mind you I suppose he would have got on well with Italy's supremo, Berlusconi as they probably share a common interest, SEX :)

It appears that he attempted to beat a rather hasty departure from the big apple. :wonder:

TelBoy 16 May 2011 12:59 PM

Drunken moment of madness. Career wrecking stupidity whether he's convicted or not.

He does have previous form in the way of similar allegations.

scud8 16 May 2011 03:27 PM

The plot thickens. The first person to report the arrest is a political activist, Jonathan Pinet, from Sarkozy's party, and it appears he tweeted the news before the actual arrest. He has explained this away by saying he happens to have a friend working at the hotel. I wonder if his friend is a chambermaid?

David Lock 16 May 2011 03:50 PM

Shaping up to be a good plot for Law & Order with a dash of Spooks :thumb:

Not silly enough for Waking the Dead and Vera would be out of her depth :cuckoo: But that Swedish bloke (?) could sort it out.

If it gets to stuff that no one understands then send it to Exile

:D dl

(Half a dozen dead chambermaids then it's off to Midsomer Norton)

Afterthought - pity Maigret has retired?

dpb 16 May 2011 10:39 PM

Its taken a trip to America to oust the guy , it seems this sort arrogance is a cabinet requirement back home !

I'm afraid he would have had to kill me. I would no way have taken his shrunken walnut whip into my mouth. ewwwwwwwwwww :nono:
He's guilty as sin, the dirty old trollop :thumb:

Latest report is that he forced her to have anal sex and then twice attempted to force her to have oral sex.

The woman has been medically examined and DNA tested, which fully corroborates her testimony. She is a long term employee with no criminal record.

It does not look good for DSK, and the court has quoted an additional charge of Attempted rape of another woman as evidence.

hodgy0_2 17 May 2011 07:42 AM

you do have to admire the US's ability and comitment to go after these sorts of high profile people

one can't imagine it happening in Europe --

just recently the US have convicted the Galleon Hedge Fund boss, Rajaratnam of insider trading, and he could well go down for 20 years

this would never happen in the UK -- the trial would drag on for 10 years, then collapse, think Asil Nadir

our record of prosecuting white collar crime is a scandal

Trout 17 May 2011 08:03 AM

Galleon case has been running on and off since 1999!

Trout 17 May 2011 08:07 AM

Here is DSK's charge sheet

There are only two routes.

It was consensual.

The case gets thrown out on a technicality.

He has not denied sex, and his lawyers have already indicated it was consensual.

I suppose it's going to have to depend on how the maid is physically.

The type of sex they had, if it were consensual should have been fine, but if it were rape, anal sex will have no doubt left her injured.

Trout 17 May 2011 09:02 AM

The police indicate that medical examination corroborates her testimony.
