I notice that with the Virgin results, you get a really poor upload speed in relation to the download - that is really naff.
Also, how is the contention on Virgin? - I heard it was awful

it is what it is. 5Mbit upload is the max you will get with a 50Mbit connection. 100Mbit has a 10Mbit upload. I have to wait until September for 100 Mbit in my area.
You lucky sods.... I have to make do with my ADSL MAX connection of 5.5 Mb until Infinity comes over here March 2012! I could squeeze another 1.5 Mb moving to ADSL2, but I can't be arsed as I lose my inclusive webspace (I have stuff linked to it from so many places). With a 35Mb connection though I won't hesitate in losing that facility. lol
Don't feel bad with 2Mb.... I think the national average is around that in any case. I still remember 56k modems and that was not too long ago. You were considered the Daddy if you had dual 128k ISDN in those days.
Supposedly our exchange got upgraded and I see a shiny new green box appeared down the road next to the old one quite a few months back however I go on BT's website and put in the phone number / post code and it tells me it's not available
Hmm bit of googling seems to show that just because the exchange you are attached to is upgraded it still doesn't necessarily mean you'll get it Either because not all the roadside cabinets in the area can be replaced/upgraded or they don't think your line will support over 15Mbs. Seems like I'm in this camp as the BT wholesale ADSL checker does indeed confirm I can get a fibre service but guestimates the rate to be around 10Mbs. Currently get around 2.4Mbs on ADSL Max.
Couldn't believe it when we moved in, it was like being transported back to 1998 FFS
When we were looking to move quite a few years ago, one of my first questions was "how far are you from the exchange and can I have your phone number to put in to the BT Checker?".

Yes. I had a 300/300 one of those and then upgraded to the WS2000 to run my own BBS and thought it was incredible ..
BT seems to have shed its bad image of the past, i was a bit sceptical about switching to them but ive been very happy since it was installed which is a while now. Occasionally it drops into the 60's at peak times but not often
