dump valve sound ??
'Hehehe'.
I'm not going to get into the secondary topic on this forum concerning spelling, chavs, Mcdonalds etc etc......
All I can do is stick my 2 penneth worth in..........
I was "one of the chavs/fools/w*****s (whatever you want to call me!! hehe) who bought a Bailey DV12 and put it straight on without a remap or anything else as I believed the "faster turbo spool, stay on boost through gear changes hype" and I must admit, the sound didn't really bother me either way and certainly wasn't the reason I put it on.
However, I recently removed it as I was getting a little tired of the noise (must be getting old!!!) and all I can tell you now is that yes, the Impreza runs a whole lot better with the standard recirc valve back on.
I'm not going to hate anyone who has a BOV, just give my advice and experience.........Mine made my Impreza lumpy at idle, very hesitant on throttle, jerky, and just run pretty badly allround. Since re-installing the standard Subaru re-circ (after all, Subaru know a hell of a lot more than I do and if that's what they fit, I'm not about to argue) my motor feels like a dream to drive now. VERY smooth gear-changes, absolutely zero noticeable decrease in performance, idles nicely, smooth all the way through the rev range etc etc etc.....
My advice - stick with the recirc - might not get the sound you're after but will almost CERTAINLY make your car run better than with a VTA BOV
There we go, rant over

When i had my stock Legacy B4 RSK people on the forum where saying how most dumpvalves cause problems for the car.
After some searching people seem to find the HKS is ok which the one i wanted anyway.
So £260 later a HKS SSQV II was fitted...
Made no difference what so ever
Car ran the same still smooth, no lumpy idle etc
My Version 5 Type R came with a HKS SSQV & that was also really smooth & but every now & again had a very slight lumpy idle
This thread is making me crack up by the way!
Plus surely we all gone through the i want the dump valve noise stage?
That was one of the reasons why i wanted a turbo car since i was young
Im now sold my Type R & own a S2000
Dam i miss the noises lol

ive not had a Bailey dv only a forge and a hks but none of them have ever caused me any problems what so ever
but surely if you want a car that runs smooth and has nice gear changes you would be better off with a ford mondeo.
i always thought the impreza was a rally bred road car not a luxury car
i guess it is down to the person (and age) who owns the car but there are a few dv haters on here

Had my vta on for just under a week now and the noise is pissing me off already. My partner described it as sounding a bit like a bus.
Glad I got given it as a freebee. It will be coming off and going on ebay for somebody else to waste their money on.
Back to the recirc.

I've missed 10 pages out, but...
1. Forge VTA is a superb bit of kit, if you actually need one. Had mine on since they first came on the market... still works fine.
2. It doesn't make any noise at all driving normally, as it isn't doing anything.
3. As all of the standard inlet has been replaced there's nowhere to plumb the std. recirc into, not that it could cope with > 2bar of boost anyway.
4. I much prefer the compressor stall a proper turbo gives anyway.
dunx
P.S. I'm VERY old... but shamefully haven't grown up yet

Dunx, when you say "compressor stall", are you refering to "turbo chatter" where the gases are pushed back though the turbo?
I have bought a FMIC (not yet delivered), and as such I was also thinking about the plumbing for the OEM dump valve
, to which im guessing isnt the same plumbing, thus what is the best dump valve to go for please guys?
Having had a Baileys and vee-port in the past, I always ended up returning back to standard..... (both were fitted to cars I bought.. honest
)
The Baileys didnt operate correctly, even after I striped it down, cleaned it, relubricated, and at one point replaced the spring.... Managed to get £60 on eBay for it though, and got a recirc free from Scoobyteknix
The Vee-port was much better being adjustable, however setting it up to best "setting for me" wasnt great. on low boost I got huge Turbo stall, and on mid boost it still only just snapped open for a brief second causing both chatter and dump, but on full boost I got a full dump..... Ok this was on a WRX engine with a VF30 pushing just over 300bhp, but still it wasnt ideal
Now on a 2002 STI, Im running close to 400bhp atm, and as such Im hoping to get much more until its time for a built motor, but as im still on the standard ecu running somewhere near probably 1.45-1.5 bar Im guessing I will need to change the ECU soon If running 10% meth as planned, thus what Dump Valve do I need?

So if you insist on having a useless add on that adds no gain bur offers crappy idle and lumpy gear changes, at least purchase a decent branded one...

It's been quiet, so I read through this lot !
Blimey ! What a hate 'fest...
Hi Rob,
I won't preach that they are needed, you probably don't need one at all ?
A higher spec. turbo is tough enough. Start DV delete and see how you go ?
dunx
P.S. Must sort a bung for mine some time soon...
P.P.S. C.o.B. was too busy being frightened to comment on mine

So plumb the FMIC up with No Dump valve at all? and I take it I will need to simply bung the return up? Do you think the GT30 should be ok with a dump dlete?, I think its simular based to the MD series.
Im all up for a using a "Proper" aftermarket dump valve, but having experience what I have experienced I think they are a waste ot time.... Some send me a link to what they see as a "proper" spec'd aftermarket please

Rob

Hello again young Rob...
Forge VTA on mine, no-where to plumb back anyway... get the Forge spring/spacer kit as well and fit the hardest spring, then it will only really operate at around 1.4 bar, so just driving normally is silent. Going for it is a bit noisier...
dunx
P.S. Turbo is easily tough enough to DV delete, IMHO. I need a bung !

Im not sure whether the std TD04 is up to the job though, they are fairly strong little buggers, but to happily get through life with back pressure
