Hopefully to clarify all this as it is going on........................................
STi5/6 and P1 =TY754VBAAA 3.166 1st, 2nd 1.882, 3rd 1.296, 4th .972 and top .738.
This is NOT a close ratio box and in these cars do not have DCCD.
STi 3 and 3 Wagon, STi4 and Wagon has TY752VBCAA. This is not as strong as the 754 boxes, in part because the casing can flex.
STi 3 and 4 R and RA =TY752VB5CA. This is known as a close ratio box.
Ratios : 1st = 3.083. 2nd = 2.062. 3rd = 1.545. 4th = 1.151 Top = .825.

yes i realise that mate,so basically if my box goes bang i should be looking at a 754 box from a 99-00 jdm sti type r or ra as both of these are a direct swap for mine and the dccd will work as normal, and i keep the close ratio gearing?

Yes that is correct. Any TY754 can replace a TY752 but obviously the rear diff and drop gears have to be correct. you want to retain DCCD so I don't know what else fits except the TY754VB1CA from 99 and 00 Type R and RA.
