Best flight I ever had to the US was in a C-130 transport plane. Bags and bags of legroom, no inflight movie, no steward service, loo was a bucket behind a curtain near the tail gate. 12 hours from Brize to Gandar, over night in a hotel courtesy of crab air, then on to Boston the next morning and finally on to Syracuse. 2nd best flight was 8 of us on an RAF VC10 with in flight steward and a slab of beer.Brize to Washington is the only RAF flight where beer is allowed, only problem was we didn't know you were not allowed to provide your own so we all had a 24 pack of Miller in our bergans for the flight back and tucked into them happily before the steward had a fit and told us we could drink, but not our own. So we ended up drinking RAF beer aswell as a sly one of your own every now and again.
I did a flight to Atlanta a few years ago with a mate. Dealt with the awful people round us by getting totally smashed and finishing off the vodka on board. We were then as awful as everyone else.

I can moan for Britain about most things, but I just don't have an issue with air travel.
I just rationalise it to what you get for your money. If I can get to Aus and back for £750 then I can put up with a few hours in less than ideal surroundings.
I mean how many miles can you travel in your car for £750. Not 20000 that's for sure!

I am really surprised you enjoyed that trip.
My Crew once had to go to Las Vegas in the back of one of those...29 hours flying! It was noisy and the vibration was so bad that you can't sleep, and it has a very high pressure hydraulic system so there is always a mild fog of hydraulic oil from the connections which leak a little oil into the air!
It was a dreadful experience and thank goodness it was the only time we had to do it.

We had hammocks slung up from the ceiling and tailgate. the inflight meals came in white cardboard boxes
Crab air took all our chocolate and coke etc off us when we landed in canada saying we woudl get it back on our continuing flight but we never saw it again

Agree with above poster saying not to publicise SeatGuru! I think it's much harder to get a good seat these days, presumably as a lot of people now know where they are. The airlines are mostly charging extra for good seats now too, and most of the US legacies are putting in economy plus so you're forced to pay extra or get an awful and noisy seat down the back, so you can see why they're doing it!
My pet hate when travelling is folk who rush to be at the front of the customs queue yet have hold luggage to wait for so aren't going to get home any faster, they just delay the people who could. I flew in to EMA last night and noticed they're setting up new automatic passport checkers now, hopefully that should speed things up.

I prefer the budget airlines in South Africa
http://blog.flightstory.net/1472/kul...-funny-livery/
* galley (cuppa anyone?)
* avionics (fancy navigation stuff)
* windows (best view in the world)
* wing #1 and #2
* engine #1 and #2 (26 000 pounds of thrust)
* emergency exit = throne zone (more leg room baby!)
* seats (better than taxi seats)
* some windows = kulula fans (the coolest peeps in the world)
* black box (which is actually orange)
* landing gear (comes standard with supa-fly mags)
* back door (no bribery/corruption here)
* tail (featuring an awesome logo)
* loo (or mile-high club initiation chamber)
* rudder (the steering thingy)
* stabiliser (the other steering thingy)
* a.p.u. (extra power when you need it most)
* galley (food, food, food, food…)
* boot space
* ZS-ZWP (OK-PIK) = secret agent code (aka plane’s registration)
* overhead cabins (VIP seating for your hand luggage)
* fuel tanks (the go-go juice)
* cargo door
* aircon ducts (not that kulula needs it… they’re already cool)
* front door (our door is always open … unless we’re at 41 000 feet)
* cockpit window = sun roof
* nose cone (radar, antenna, and a really big dish inside)

Wow what sort of stuff do you do to deserve being flown about like that?
I've flown a few special charter flights about...always good, but never what I'd call a private jet as such, just a company hired 737 or something.
Quite a few chartered turboprops around Australia for flying to work.
...and of course a lot of Chopper rides.

I used to do some moonlighting for an aero medical company. The learjet was kitted out like a flying ambulance/intensive care unit, I was the flying doc.
So I wasn't being flown around like some ceo, so nothing glamorous I'm afraid. It was bloody hard work but great fun and taught you to be very resourceful.

Came back from Cyprus once on a Jet2 flight (awful awful airline) and some chav bird at the front was that smashed she actually p1$$ed herself.
Mind, I've done premium economy to New York and didn't have an issue and I've also flown as cheap as chips to Chicago on an Air India flight. It was copming from Mumbai and refuelling at Heathrow so when we got on the plane reeked of curry and was full of sleeping Indians. The meal was quality though and now issues at all.
Also had a private flight a few times through work. Best one was up to Birmingham, nice chauffeur driven roller at the otherend and a weekend at the Belfry. Couldn't grumble!

I did Air India from Heathrow to New York years ago, plane was making a stopover, the curry for the inflight meal was ace but I could have done without the wet floors in the toilets of the India ladies singing along with the "music" on the headphones, sounded like someone was disemboweling a cat with a soup spoon.
