looks tricky and its hard to explain how i would tackle it ! but wrap around the sides first , then the bottom so they overlap each other , then use a sharp razor blade and neatly cut around the edge of the bottom piece which cuts through both layers of vinyl , gently peel back the edges of the bottom piece and pull out the off cuts . when you re-stick the bottom piece edges it will join perfectly with the rest and hey presto see told u its hard to explain

Think i get it! so wrap it in sections as such?

How would you get it so you can't see the joins? Was I expecting too much trying to stretch it into that recess then?

its actually hard to see the joins if done well . youll be surprised . i think its possible to do it in one ? but very difficult in each corner at the bottom !!!

what initial is trying to explain is if you start on the top and stretch the vinyl down the sides of the recess but dont try and cover the bottom.
like so...

once you have this done, cut a piece slightly larger than the bottom and fit that with the overlap coming up the sides and covering the first piece


then use a craft knife and carefully cut around the overlap. if we refer the the two pieces as red and blue.. peel the overlapping blue from the sides of the recess then peel back the blue base and remove the overlapping red from underneath. then the two final pieces will be all thats left and should have a perfect seam.

my experience of using vinyl would say it will be very difficult if at all possible because it would have to be stretched quite a lot, this with really distort the pattern and the main problem is when you stretch the vinyl, the adhesive also stretches and becomes thiner giving less grip. then only safe way to do this would be to use contact adhesive on the trim, apply the vinyl flat across the top and vacuum bag it to pull it into shape and hold if while the glue cures
