A 2m Tsunami is huge.

As it nears shore it will turn into a much higher wave.

They are issuing warnings here, although the wave is only supposed to be 2ft by the time it hits the coast.

(I'm in San Francisco, flying out this evening)

No disrespect to that area, but they are famous for mass pollution. It's been posted on here before.
It's still awful and very, very tragic.

The footage of Skyscrapers swaying was insane.

I gotta say I've been very impressed with what I have seen of the Japanese society and government so far.

I've been in Japan for nearly 5 years... and let's just say it was one of the scariest things to ever happen to me!

I live in the prefecture of Gunma, so only about 450miles away from where the real havoc wreaked, but it shooks things up pretty bad where I was.

As for the person who made this comment

It certainly is no joke mate

So just to let you know, at least one scoobynet member in Japan is ok... I also have mates from other car forums, and they are all safe too

The 6 foot wave is an indication of the shock wave from the earthquake being transmitted via the water in the sea.

When it reaches a coast the shallower water causes the wave to increase in size and can then turn into a tidal wave which will flow over the coast concerned.

Yea my mistake, I can't believe the arrogance of some of those people TBH, fair enough the jokes are out already and some of them are pretty funny but to say things like they deserve it etc is a bit much.

BBC reporter just called the Tsunami a "tidal wave" - what a pillock.
