Sorry for the cross-post, I wanted to contribute to this thread too.
If anyone knows the true storey, they ain't talking!. Until someone wants to confirm these reports of engine failures, then we are in the realm of rumour and speculation which I think is unfair to PE, and damaging to their reputation.
Don't forget that any boost increase is going to eat into the safety margin that Subaru build into the car - If you keep within 2-3lb of boost above standard, it should be safe from a mechanical strength perspective. Maybe some other factors are coming into play.
Maybe PE could do a 'compromise' map with more mid-range boost, and less top end if you asked. I don't know about you, but my car doesn't spend that much time at 6500-7000 revs, so that scheme would make more sense for me, and reduce the stress on the engine a bit.
I presume this is what the 99MY PPP conversion does - phat midrange (255lb/ft?), but rolling off the boost at higher revs to keep overall power down to 240ish bhp.

P.S. Who would have experience tweaking the 22B motor? Certainly not Prodrive. Haven't there been a few reports of problems with 22B engines going sick?. Maybe they aren't as strong as normal STIs. Does the extra 200cc come from a stroked STi block, or from a legacy 2.2 motor (or something else)

Have to agree with you alex, we need subtantiated evidence on the re-map problems [ if they exist] as it is not fair to PE to pass on any unsubtantiated stuff like that on this board which has become a pretty powerful medium. I for one have had the PE phase one and I am confident that they have left me the right side of the safety margin when it comes to engine reliability, running 17 psi boost. However , if anyone has had problems, it would be nice to hear from them!

If you wonder if 99 PPP is worth it - ask steve mcculloch - I was following him in his STi v5 on sunday, and he couldn't pull away from me! (Steve - 
!) Add in the soundtrack from WRC/RR Merlin and the warrenty - its a winner!

You proved what I always felt. My STI V was no quicker than an 99MY PP. In fact the low end torque advantage makes it quicker around town and on tight country lanes. Factor in the better suspension as well

Gary's experience may have 'proved' that the PPP enables a UK car to keep up with an STi, but has anyone with a PE or similar had a similar experience?
I'm looking forward to Donno, where hopefully we'll have the full range of cars to time, unofficially of course!
I think this would be a good comparison, although I suppose the surface favours the stiffer STi's suspension.
Someone with a PPP or PE must have some non-standard suspension though.

Alex M, the boost does not roll off at the top of the PPP to the extent that power stays/falls at 240bhp. Mine is puhsing out peak power of 259 bhp and 257/lb ft torque very flat from 2700 ish to 5500.

My car has an ITG filter and Brembo brakes. Dealer has told me no probs with warranty as reputable parts fitted by a reputable outfit (£50s in brown bag please Pete! . Apparently, many dealers are also allowing Scoobysport downpipe to be fitted without causing warranty issues and even supplying it themselves as an upgrade!. You need to check with the dealer covering your warranty. I will be going for the downpipe once i speak to my dealer.

Ive got MY00 with PPP and was wondering what would I could next.
Sorry for ignorance but you saying a downpipe will make it even better???
Would I need anything else in conjunction with the downpipe? boost controller maybe?? Would I get fuel cuts??

Oh and back to the thread Ive driven the cousins none PPP and theres def a difference mine has more punch.
