I snuck out from work today...

Oh no!!!
I have been sussed.
You are right, I only bought it to salve my middle-aged ego, driving it around hoping some 19 year old airhead would perhaps want a 'ride' so she could suck my tiny little *****.
Still, could be worse, I could drive a TT RS
PS Your edited comments regarding the Turbo would indicate that you do not know the first thing about 911s

Come on, it's a **** extension for balding 50yr olds going through a mid life crisis. Why else would anyone buy such a loud brash car? Just look at the spoiler, what would your opinion be of someone doing that in the car park of the local halfords store to say a Honda Civic or a Renault Clio?
I couldn't afford 1 at this time of my life no, I'm not going to get in a pis*ing contest with you as you obviously can. I'm just not in agreeement with everyone else that I should be drooling over this car.
As to the 911, I'd have the 997 Turbo S over this car every day of the week, infact the 500hp Turbo car would do too.
I just dont get this car, well not for road use anyway.
I wont spoil your thread though, whatever floats your boat though. I'm out :-)

I kept reserving it and the website kept crashing. I gave up after an hour and went back later. Luckily it was still there!
The rumour is the limited edition RS will be called the RSR - so this could be a handy investment.

Sorry, but its screaming mid life crisis, **** extension, hey everybody look at me
444bhp aswell isn't earth shattering in 2011. A much better and much more sophisticated choice without shouting out at everyone would be the Turbo or Turbo S surely?
Did I say it wasn't my cup of tea

Why are you comparing a GT3 to a Turbo? They are two totally different cars, for different purposes. You might aswell have suggested a Mercedes S-Class.

It is loud, it is uncomfortable, it is in your face, it isn't particularly fast in a straight line (although i will admit, it will be good round a track) It is tacky with the meccano spoiler, the stickers and the red colour scheme.

It is one thing to say you do not like this car. Fair enough - I don't like lots of cars. You are totally free to say so.
But, here is the thing. If you don't like this car why don't you just say so. Why do you need to resort to judgemental personal insults.
I suspect that says a lot more about you than it does about this car.

I'm comparing the Turbo as that is the more sophisticated car to buy in the Porsche 997 range, much quicker too If Trout is a track demon then fair play but still if it were me, I'd have that toned down. As for road use, no I dont get it.

There are some more pics on this thread.
I am actually working properly today, in London, and everything.
Back at home tomorrow and I will see if I can get some more pics of internals and details etc.
Thanks for everyone's very kind comments. Twelve years ago I scraped together the money to get my first Subaru which, in it's own way was as exciting as getting this. I have had an incredible decade in between but at the core I am still the same excited petrol head just as I was when I joined this site in 1999.
The best thing is that the response to the car has been unanimously positive from waves from other drivers to comments at petrol stations and elsewhere. It really is a privilege to be able to own something like this.
And I will happily do passenger laps when I am on track days - if you see me just ask

Perhaps I should have kept quiet, If you've nothing nice to say and all that. I therefore apologise if you have taken offence at my comment.
Over and out, will give you your limelight back

There is always going to be someone who doesn't like it to be fair.
I myself couldn't have one if i could afford it(would have went with blue), as the red is a bit OTT for round my area, but i love the look nontheless.

Lovely motor Trout. If it had been my money I'd have got the Turbo as I am not a fan of the stickers etc and can't drive half as well as Trout and would need 4wd.
I'd just love to be in a position financially where I had that decision to make. Well done Trout and thanks for sharing with us. I look forward to any more pictures or reviews.

I'd have to have the Turbo (S) too as I need back "seats!" but I'd certainly love to give a GT3 RS a good go - rawer, purer, more edgy. In fact I'd probably crash one so maybe it's best not to try.

Would you rather it have been Glasgow, or perhaps Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Newcastle or London?
Dont get your point fella. All those cities above have shi*hole communities within just like any city in the UK.
I forget where you live, but is it a very loud Datsun you drive to work in again? You can hardly claim to have taste either
What is taste though? Very subjective? Something in your face and loud though suggests you have no taste.
997TTS oozes taste, lovely cars, go well too and would show your Datsun a clean pair of heels ;-) The GT3RS however would be so much better without all the tat attached.
I'm allowed to have an opinion, surely?

Everyone is allowed an opinion but you stepped over the line into "pointless insults."
Yes the livery is a bit loud (and not to my taste) and yes I'd go for a Turbo S too but I (and everyone else here) respects the facts that:
1) That is one of the best drivers cars out there - N/A and RWD unlike the Turbo S
2) Trout has done rather well to be able to buy one
3) Trout can actually drive one properly unlike 99% of us.
4) The rest of us manage to be positive and not sound like the wannabee you come across as.

An impreza is a chav charriot
A datsun GTR is a bigger chav charriot, be it a more expensive 1 that only richer chavs can afford.
All hothatches are for drunken lager louts who like holidaying in magaluf and sha*ging each others birds.
An Audi TT is a gaymans car.
Any convertible car is even gayer.
A Boxster or a cayman is a poverty spec pretend porsche
Audis are driven by wan*ers
BMW's are driven by bigger wan*ers.
Aston Martins are for footballers and company executives that do not understand cars
All supercars, Lambos, ferraris and so on are for men with serious image problems.
Are there any cars left that do not have a stereotype attached? The point being, we are all entitled to our opinions and my view is stereotypical. I dont know trout, I haven't seen the car in the flesh, I'm only going on what initially popped up when I seen the pictures. I'm sure the GT3RS is a cracking car, it certainly rates high on the track. I just think it is pointless for the road and with all the unnecessary tat attached to it, takes something special away from the car. I suspect most women would actually run a mile from stepping into it rather than being drawn to it and most petrol headed men would appreciate it.
Trout has obviously done well in order to be able to afford 1 of these cars in the first place but let's not make it about salary, wealth or possessions as we all have different circumstances. Nanny/nursery/schooling/Mortgage costs and so on and on that it gets a little ***** waving when we start to mention the old dollar.
Enjoy your car Trout.

I would say the turbo is soo much more obvious its laughable , a quite desperate attempt to display ones 'sporting' credentials , the owner would actually like to be in a bentley continental but his ego wont let him

The 997 GT3 & 997 Turbo are completley different types of cars. Why Trout should buy a Turbo over a GT3 RS is a pointless question & its his decesion at the end of the day.
I spent Sunday at the Porsche Centre Silverstone testing out loads of new Porsches & drove up there in my bro in laws new GT3 (non RS). On the way we had exactly the same discussion, though what we said is,- "why would anyone buy a Turbo or TurboS when the GT3 is such an awesome car & approx £25k cheaper". The 997s does'nt even come into the equation, (though the new GTS was much better than the std 997) believe me we drove them all only on Sunday gone!

TBH I see where LEO comes from about the GT3 RS being too loud, too showy. I think the car is fantastic, and would love one.
However, I think I'd actually prefer the less "Look-at-me" Vanilla GT3, if it was my own money.

Dammit !
I didn't even notice it was March already
Dunx did ponder awhile about maybe lurking down by the OPC looking for a "scalp"...
Instead I had a rare lie-in and later took the dog onto Ilkley Moor for a wander in the sunshine.
Pretty car !

Kinda agree with you, I'd give my right nut for Trouts car as its fookin' awesome but I would feel a bit wick tootling around in it. Its not as if its Trouts only car, its a Weekender and it fooking rocks!
