I guess people will always pin their flag to whoever did their rebuild (providing they did a good job lol) but it's worth remembering that most of the big tuners are very friendly and will delve into each others parts supply etc, share tuning ideas etc... Many of the best cars out there have part from lots of different manufacturers; it's good to mix and match a bit. Just thinking off the top of my head, my car has

A RCM supplied fuel pump
A scoobyclinic SC46 turbo
A Collins engineering exhaust
An APi parallel fuel rail set up

I got these bits, not because of an allegiance to one particularly supplier/manufacturer, but because they were the best bits given my aspirations for the car and budget etc...

So far looked at APi, Scooby Clinic and Roger Clark

Anyone had a big build done by the above before????
I wonder if the 6 pages have helped him at all ...... I can understand why he`s looking at brakes now.

You say that Tidgy (head to head , multi lap racing) but Time Attack when you think about it is more suited to finding out the true potential of every car on track as they are less likely to lose time due to traffic.

TA is a much better format for producing flying laps than say touring car (type) racing whereby a lot more time can be lost (per average lap).

I've ran more power since then but at the time I was circa 500 bhp on v power and 540 with 10% methanol. I'm looking forward to running on with 17's with 888's on, a 5 speed box with better ratios a stripped car and 150 bhp more.

Tidgy - you're inaccurate at best regarding the turbo. It was sold to me as a billet 35r. It certainly wasn't sold to me as an RCM branded turbo.

lol the OP was looking for advice on who to use but it has turned into RCM and the costs they charge and the reasons why they can. No-one is knocking what they do and what they have achieved but there are multiple tuners out there that have and do build successful engines which deliver what the customer wants, personaly for me it would be David at API, others Alan at Engine tuner, others Kev at ScoobyClinic

its who you feel you trust and are confident with, all will build you an reliable car and all i am sure have had some **** ups which very few end up being posted on here. just because you have not heard of an RCM build or others tuners for that matter going POP does not mean it has not happened and that is not a dig at rcm or any of them but what does matter is hoe they go about it and deal or resolve the issue.

back on track and to the OP

there are a shed loads of tuners out there but only a handful that i think we all agree will deliver what you want ie

RCM
API
CLINIC
ENGINE TUNER
TRACKTIVE

but more importantly do YOU need a 500bhp car?

what are you using it for?

and can you justify spending in the region of £15000 - £30000 building it as it does not just stop and the engine its all the other bits

suspension
breaks
gearbox (depending on car)
clutch
flywheel
injectors
turbo
sumps
catch cans
exhaust
.............. the list is endless

dont chase a number, go out in a few cars, se if the tuners can get hold of a car for you to go in etc and yo may find 400 of each id more then enough. and not to knock anyone who has built or runs a high powered car but how many of you can actually have the car on its limit, how many probably cant have the car on its limit running a mere 350 let alone 400 or 450 for that fact.

each to their own i guess and before anyone jumps in i have had a 500bhp car built by rcm (not paid for by me the previous owner) so i picked it up at a fraction of the cost that went into it.

speak to some of the tuners, ask for their advice and i am sure you will end up with something that you are more then happy with

best of luck

if so then fair enough, but im sure you said on one of the other threads its was an RCM turbo.

perhaps i've been a bit over the top in what i've said an i appologise if i have, it wasn't my intention to turn it into a pi**ing contest, but as said theres more than one way to skin a cat and to say you have to do things this way just isn't true.

Ok, so if i am right, Damien, is this Damien here http://www.p1woc.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=22592

Now, isnt the turbo up and down kit an RCM kit, possibly supplied via SC.

It was mentioned somewhere that if RCM had a failure it would be kept quiet, but to date they have never experienced an engine failure, and it's a fact.
There are no engine failures on record anywhere.

LOL Damien whos Damien LMAO.........looking at it and a quick email tells me yes it is.......I'm a big enough boy to admit I'm wrong.....again I assumed it was an SC one........and I should know in my line of work that assumptuons are the mother of all f*** ups.......RCM is in every big build LOL........Well its in mine but its not in everyones.......especially when 500 is easily achieved in the stock turbo position.....

Very good choice going with RCM stealthy........still would have stuck with API as you have a connection with them

Tis very funny though as you can go on RCM's site and get an RCM billet turbo..........and think its officially made by them.........but as we know it was blouch who brought them in Via SC

fudge think you miss interpreted what i meant, i did not mean that they would do their best to keep it on the QT i meant that if they had ever had a failure the chances of it being put on here or being made public would be very slim, not that they would keep in covered up just most customers generally would not go public and that was meant not just for RCM but same with all the other Tuners.

very few bad stories get air'd in public compared to all the glowing reports that get mentioned.

although hearing that they have never had a failure stated by a well known and respected user on here is good enough for me, so top stuff to RCM

I'd be too scared of breaking it. I don't mind caining the **** off my own car but someone elses, no way!!!

I drove my mates 600bhp Norris built evo once. I got cut up by some **** in a taxi and had to take evasive action and managed to curb his OZ 19" three piece split rims. I felt physically sick and vowed never to drive anyones car ever again lol

Shame though as I'd love a crack on the 1/4 in that.
