yep and it does a perfectly good enough job, which is the equivalent to the sud stage when washing a car. I don't see your point really as you have just proved foaming isn't really necessary.
Do you cover your dishes in foam and then wash them after as well then?
Lets face it a foamed car looks cool and makes a nice pic to talk about on a car forum

i found it sometimes helps to give gun a quick turn from - to + and back again when it does not seem to foam up well,if using regular 1inch plus warm water is plenty as you dont want it to attack the plastics over time plus it strips any wax off.
What? u should always use a mitt whether u foam it or not. Foaming is no magic solution, there will always be tiny dirt particles left in the paint no matter what method you use, so why bother.
Put it this way, I pressure wash with water, use a mitt n decent shampoo, 2 buckets, to keep dirt out of the suds, then rinse n dry with thick microfibre towels. My car hasn't got a single scratch or swirl on it as is 6yrs old, nuff said. If any swirls do appear then polish preferably with a DA n protect, seal, job done.

I agree Its not cheap to buy but how much would a garage/detailer charge you for a mop?
So for £45 for the lance, I already own a PW as I use it on other things not just the car, and a tub of foam at £20 for 5 ltrs, Im happy to do my bit.

You aren't seeing the point of the foam stage, it's to get as much dirt off the car before you have to touch it with a mitt. As the link posted by JDM stig shows done properly it will leave the car completely clean. It's the physical moving around of the mitt that causes the majority of swirls.
That said if you don't use it and you've got no swirls you must be doing someing right. I'm ultra careful and I still get them, my car is black though so it shows everything.
The majority of the population think anything more than a sponge and fairy liquid is going a bit far so it's largely irrelevant really. They will just think your car is clean, they won't notice whether there is swirls or not it's only us OCD freaks that can see.

so something in your process is causing swirls, you can only DA it so many times before you have no top coat left, I dont get the swirls back so Im happy to waste my time, those extra few minutes dont add up to a few hours machine polishing every so often,

Because people will tell you as you can see in this thread that it breaks dirt down so u can easily rinse it off with a pressure washer. Whereas in reality a pressure washer will remove 99% of the dirt easily without it having to be 'broken down'. For me it just added 10mins of extra washing time that simply isn't needed.
Well ive got a dirt driver so i just stick my pipe in the 25 litre tub and turn on the burner as well to boot,it does all the mixing for me
