again im not a big cat fan and i see some point in it being the cat owners fault and that we cant see wot happens b4 but in all fairness i have a german shepard who walks off lead and she dont like cats but if i shout she comes bk,all jack russles are small animal killing machines but most are under control and this bloke didnt control his.he could have stopped that dog but didnt.if it rips apart a cat like that wot would happen 2 a small child if it took a disliking? if it cant be controled then it should be on a lead full stop.i dont like admitting this as it gives all dog owners a bad rep but it was that dog owners fault.

Animals do worse in the wild. The cat was ferral who is to say the cat didnt attack the dog first? afterall a ferral cat is classed as vermin in the same way a fox is.You are all basing your opinions on what you saw in the video, without seeing what led up to this its nigh on impossible to place outright blame on the dogs/owners

although kicking the cats body away like that was revolting

By what you've posted up here it would appear that most of them have been doing it in your head.

What IS the difference between a dog killing a cat and a cat killing a bird, incidentally?

The issue is not the dog killing the cat, as left to their own devices, this is likely to happen, they are animals after-all (although not always though. , My dog is terrified of cats after she was attacked as a pup by my sister's cat, she's a staffy (my dog, not my sister)) it is the dog apparantly being allowed to kill the cat, and the way the cat is kicked away.

So in context, it would be like standing there allowing your cat to attack someones pet birds or chickens etc.

The dog doesn't bring the cat back and leave it under the stairs when no-one is looking?

I'm sure you don't Andy, but are you seriously suggesting that 'feral' kids do not exist?? They may not literally $hit in your garden, but .............

So, going by that logic, if there are feral kids in the UK, then its all ok to let mine go feral too.

On the same pretense, that dog owner doesn't use a lead nor pick up its s**t, so I won't bother picking up my dog's s**t nor use a lead either.

And that cat owner lets his roam out every night, hasn't bothered to castrate or worm it, so I'll do the same too.

Nice. Thats some great morals to live by,

I think he is saying that just because all cat owners are generally irresponsible, it doesn't mean that the rest of us have to stoop to their level.

p.s. - I am not actually stating this, just explaining Ali's post, so you should flame him f necessary

And the great cat debate rages on, Your all getting worked up about a feral stray cat getting killed by a dog like it's the worst thing that happened in the world this week?

Let's put this in perspective for you all, a HUMAN CHILD dies in Africa every 45 seconds of malaria. A figure that could easily be lowered by the pharmaceutical company's allowing their drugs to be made in generic form without licence fees.

Surely this makes the large medicine company's much more evil than the scroates who can't control their dogs? Are you more concerned over the cat than the Kids?????

So to all you people getting your knickers in a twist over a cat, THINK it through and put it into perspective.

PS... a couple of quick clarifications:

1) You state "HUMAN CHILD" what other types are there?
2) Is that exactly every 45 seconds (and what time zone) or an average based over an extended period of time?

Thank you, DCI

Nice to see you both have a well thought out and structured response to the point I made, I think it clearly shows how pathetic this thread is!!!!

1) well it ain't a fecking kitten is it.

2) As I'm sure you know (or maybe not if you have a low IQ) the figure is worked out by a mathematical formula on the amount who die each year and how frequently children would die to get to that number in that time span.

There's no evidence from that video that the men set the dog on the cat deliberately, only that they showed callous disregard for its corpse. The cat is described as a "feral tabby" - to me, that means "wildlife destruction machine". Don't get me wrong, I don't blame the cat for what it does naturally, I blame the irresponsibility of owners that allows cats to become feral and wreak havoc on the local wildlife. In my opinion, feral cats should be rounded up and humanely destroyed. I've been a cat owner and have loved my pets, but I can't honestly feel much compassion for what's gone on here.
Despite the fact it was said to be feral, it was regarded as a pet by the man who used to look out for it and feed it. We have feral cats down the road from us who live in a farmer's barn and earn their keep by frightening the rats and mice away. Mrs Leslie feeds them occasionally as does the farmer and she enjoys doing that.

I think it would be unfair to destroy feral cats, they don't usually cause a problem and I believe that they are entitled to a life anyway, especially if they have been deserted by an irresponsible owner.

It is not a sign of weakness to feel a bit of compassion.
