40+ YEAR OLD IMPREZA OWNERS...

The UK is really snobby about cars compared to places like America and Australia. Middle classes over here basically despise petrol-heads, and cars like Astons are only cool because of the image and luxury....nobody owning them would take pride in even being able to change the oil!
If you mod cars by default you are labeled a boy-racer or chav in Britain. Yet in places like Australia it's a virtue to have a Commodore SS on the driveway and a V8 being rebuilt in the garage!

I am all 3.
1. over 40.
2. Still modifying my car.
3. A perv.
But I had to wait till I was over forty to be able to afford to Insure my car, then modify it so I could make a quick getaway when perving.
I think it will go on for many many years with me. but the car might have to go soon.

I have had a modified car since I was 20 years old, its something that never grows out of you no matter how much you wish it would. I think I would get more stick from my friends if I bought a Porsche than having a modified car! I'm not your usual 40 year old as I have a younger look on life than a lot of other people my age but i still know my place
I really felt embarassed when I got out of my car and it was stickered up and I still chuckle at all the people with Subaru brand of clothing

Well I'm er ....cough cough 45 and have 2 subarus and they turn heads too
Can never see me in a Audi, BMW,merc etc boring car
Scoobies keep me feeling young and gave me a smile in the morning when I open the garage and select which one to drive to work in
The only car I would have apart from a scooby is a mustang or GTR
Could not drive a boring old mans car and don't think I will ever change apart from stretching the seatbelt further over my belly
Roll on the fifties and another Subaru to join the fleet

First Subaru - a new STi V when I was 38.
Second Subaru - a new Spec C MY06 when I was 43.
First Porsche 911 - 993 Carrera when I was 42.
Second Porsche 911 - 996 GT3 when I was 48.
Third Porsche - GT3 RS - coming when I am 49 and a bit
Clearly, sad, age defying middle age...
...or, actually I just drive cars I like driving and now I can afford them. To be fair, other than on Scoobynet, I have NEVER had anyone comment on my age and car choices. And my friends typically drive pretty sensible cars like MPVs, BMWs, Audis and Mercs!!

...Do you have a sense of guilt, at 'middle age', about tooling around, and being really into, these cars; sinking serious wodges of cash into 'em, etc, etc.? (just like you were when you were in your 20s with hot hatches etc.).
Don't get me wrong, I love performance cars, and ALWAYS will (I bet I'll still be driving one if I pass my 70+ retest )...
Do you feel other motorists of similar age group look down on 'us' as being a bit sad? Do you feel they 'hate' us?
