Only by misinformed journalists, which is why I pitched the question about where the evidence was for this assertion. I have a pretty good understanding of the GTR's electronics working for the leading company that supplies tuning for them.

FWIW, it has an open front diff, a LSD in the rear and an electronically controlled centre diff very similar to Subarus which the "real men" amongst us will be pleased to know defaults to 98% RWD. Otherwise it is run of the mill ABS, ESP and DBW throttles.

Turn the VDC off and all you have is an electronically controlled centre diff and a spin in the wet for most cocky drivers.

I quite agree- in fact if i had the money , although i prefer classic cars , for the sheer hell of it, i would buy a Lambo lp 640- Everyone would hate me, i know but thats how it is with these type of cars. Actaually, a friend of a friend has a Maserati GT which doesnt seem to attract half of much of the negativity.

I think really people are less bothered about image and whether people think they abuse themselves, and just care how the thing drives. Because the GTR can pedal well around a track and punch above its excessive weight and low price, people who haven't driven one seem to think it is lacking in feel, soul or some other nebulous concept that people endow on a flawed and expensive car.

Comparison is natural, it is good these cars are in the market, and there is a good choice of drivetrains, transmissions and engines in the £50-150k range as you would *****y well hope given the amount of time most of us have to save up to buy a car like this.

Sorry, I've had too much wine. I am seriously not an alcoholic

However, I do take the highest horse on the road to exception to be bundled with the council house and violent brigage. I may have been brought up on free school meals and do not speak RP, but I do not reside in local authority housing (although I am a scummy tenant) and am only violent towards tyres. I have only ever been apprehended by the police once, and that was for going too fast around a corner, hence the abuse of rubber.

Oooh this has got interesting...

Agree about "flash" comments - many are just trying to justify some boring dull-mobile. Everyone wants to make themselves feel better - dismissing someone that's earned enough to buy a Porker/Ferrari/R8 is simply a bit of self justification.

Would always be a 911 for me - a 997.2 Turbo S at the moment. A (distant and not well known enough!) mate has just bought a new one and I hate him...!

No interest in massive Lambos and the like - we live in the UK, not the USA/Dubai/somewhere with massive roads.

Or have I misunderstood the rest of the thread

Trout lands a right boot to the bollox.

This obviously isn't conclusive, but I've done a few drivers days this year, where I always pick a Porsche, turbo if available. After Ferrari the car that has the biggest crowd and queues to drive is the GT-R. R8 seems to be amongst the least popular. I know out of the three cars above the R8 would be my last choice.

Sorry mate but only sad and slightly bitter people think this way, and I'm sorry to say it's usually people who will never afford any of those cars.

Just as an example JBanks has a GTR and is a GP and the two people I know who own 997 turbos are both surgeons. So your generalisations are just that, misinformed and ignorant generalisations.

When I see any of those three cars I always just think 'nice car' wouldn't mind one myself.

I was once 'chased' by a base Astra through Leeds in the GT3. The driver was doing what he could to get alongside me. I was thinking, uh oh, here comes trouble.

The driver finally got alongside me, was about the same age (old to you fekkers ). He looked across, had a big smile on his face and gave me a HUGE thumbs up.

It clearly made his day to see a nice car out on the road.

Maybe not so many people go to that extreme but not all people run around with a bag of McCain on their shoulders.

Couldn't agree more.

In America, if you do well, earn lots of money, buy a big house, buy a Ferrari/Porsche/lambo etc you are seen as someone who has made something for themselves. You've made the American dream. To have money, a nice home, and a nice car. You given yourself security for yourself and your family. That's what most people want.

In Britain? **** me. You do well for yourself, earn some decent money, buy a nice house, buy a Ferrari/Porsche/Lambo etc, and you get labeled a W*nker. Dear god

You drive down the road in your Ferrari, and people will hate you. You then get some @rsehole telling you that he owns a GTR, Evo, STI etc, that only cost him £X amount of money to buy and tune. And that it will be faster than your flash Ferrari. Yet that same @rsehole, would love to go out and buy a Ferrai. But why hasn't he? Because he hasn't worked hard enough to make something of himself.

Will the guy driving the Ferrari now sell it, and buy a GTR? Buy an Evo, to be a man of the people? No. He'll just drive home to his nice big house and tell his wife that he met another jealous pr!ck today.

(That's not aimed at John Banks by the way, just a general comment)

I watched the news the other night, to listen to some numpty (interview through the day, so obviously not working) to tell the nation that "Nobody is worth more than £50k a year".

You have to admit though Trouts comment is quite succinct.

Forgot I started this thread!

Why is the 997tt bouncing up and down like that? It seems really unsettled and that surprises me.

911s do like to bob at the front end. Presumably it is due to just having a fuel tank, radiator and shopping in the front of the car?

Mine doesn't seem to do it much.

But I guess that's the pendulum effect.

Still, it's a car that doesn't flatter, unlike some....

Apparently not.

The latest high end Porks have dynamic engine mounts, electronically damping engine movement from 20mm to 2mm.

Apparently the bob and sway was caused by engine movement being hugely exaggerated due to it's rear position. With the DEM the amount of bob and way is significantly reduced. The new Turbo, GT2 and GT3 RS all have them fitted as standard and are described as super stable. I will report back when I have spent proper time in one

Are you getting a radio in it or is it not going to be a daily driver? I'm sure I could live with one without stickers, but I'd need some way of listening to Humphrys in the morning.

Are you going to track it?
