Actually fog lamps can help visibilty in 'falling' snow because of the low and wide beam spread as opposed to main beam which can get reflected back ( at the driver ) by the snow.

I know that you can't easily do this with modern cars but if you do alot of rural driving, particularly down narrow lanes and stuff, turning the fog lights outwards helps picking up verges etc.. ( also helps when turning at junctions )

I tend to use my side and foglights in daylight hours to make my car a little more visible to all the clueless feckwits round here who got their licences from cornflakes packets

I have a poverty spec Golf...it has no front fog lamps, I think they drain too much current for the 3.2 litre engine to cope.

(Ironically, most "real" poverty spec Golfs do have front fogs )

Out of interest why does the WRX have front fogs when the STI doesn't?

Because the WRX is a proper drivers driving car, the STi is but an imitation of the original.

All in my un-bias opinion of course.

Its only because they are fitted and any excuse to use them is good enough. They are only legally allowed to be used in conditions of poor visibility anyway.

You feel like asking them what else they got for Christmas!
