ipads !!!!! any good or not????

I used to use my laptop virtually every day until I bought my 32gb wifi/3G on the 2nd July. I've since used the laptop around 10 times since and used my iPad EVERY day since I bought it. I love it, suits my needs perfectly. I don't have a flash phone, just a basic company supplied thing that makes phone calls and texts and that's it, so the iPad is a great companion.
Not perfect by any means but very good in my opinion, although would I have bought one if I had an iPhone?....probably not in honesty.
Edit to add.....also taken it on 2 holidays this year (both in the UK) and it was a brilliant tool to have with me.

I got a mail notify app on my iPhone which plays a sound and shows a snippet of the email that's just come in - called Mail Notifier, can be set up on any email account coming into the iPhone - should be something similar for iPad ?

I would say dont buy a 16gb you will fill it quickly, I (stupidly) went for a 16gb iphone4 and dont have much space on it as I watch vids on it so have to swap and change stuff.
I did have 32gb wifi+3g ipad, great but of kit but sold it. Why? well for listening to music and watching vids Ive got my iphone which ok isnt as great for vids but is highly portable and is with me *all* the time. The ipad is great for reading pdfs/books and magazines but that was all I was really using it for. I develop software and as I cant run xcode to write iOS apps Ive got my macbook which is just as portable really.
If all you need to do is emails/surf the web, watch films, read stuff and do the odd document its fine. It *is* a superb device but as others have said version 2 is probably not that far away with a rumoured Q1 2011 release.

I don't get it - and neither do the 3 friends I know who are regretting buying them now that the novelty has worn off. One of them has gone back to his daily newspaper after being frustrated at the lack of content and the faf of using the Times on his iPad.
I cannot think of a single use for it that isn't already covered by other devices I have.
e.g. I'm at home using a marvellous device called a 'laptop' which allows me to access the internet, run music wirelessly round the house and view our photos. I could use it for email but prefer my blackberry for work emails and only rarely use home emails (which our PC is fine for).
Games? House already has PCs, Xbox360, DS x 2, Wii etc - I don't want to play the awful games people are getting excited about on the iPad (I guess angry birds is good for people new to the gaming market and kids?).
Photos? Covered
Apps? Can't think of anything I need that we don't already have software for.
Portable reader? Kindle is brilliant, fits in my suit jacket pocket and I don't worry about being mugged for it in public. It also doesn't give me eye-strain - I'd never read a book on a laptop, so why would I want to on a laptop sized screen that won't stand up right?
I'll stop there - I'm not saying iPads are crap (I think they look lovely and are a nice toy), but I genuinely cannot see how I'd use or need one.
