Within what they are allowed to do by OFCOM, such as notifying customers to a change in service for instance...
with VM's deception of advertising 50Mb and delivering less than a tenth of that for newsgroup traffic at all the times Im going to be at home....

50Mb adverts have subject to T&C .. one of which (if its present) will be the traffic monitoring ...
That's pretty much all I have to say on this, if you don't like VM go elsewhere, I personally use them and have never had a problem ..

i have never had my 50meg connect throttled AFAIK. always max out my news connection. the odd time it drops but a modem and router reset has me back up again. Pimmo any indication of any UBRs in belfast being ready yet?

i get rougly 35-40mb out of my 50mb connection, and tbh i find that OTT, the rates you get are never that high (or very rarley) because your limited by the other end. so very happy with virgin on that front

Maybe i didn't ask the question as clearly as i should, you said this...
Indicating to me that there is something in the traffic policies which you are controlling but can't say on here, but the rules should be clear for all to see in the T&Cs... so whats the difference between what you are enforcing as the VM police compared to the whats the Law, i.e T&Cs? Is there a difference?

That's 371Mbps down and 8.08Mbps up
Now I know that's not possible as the PC is only connected via a 100Mbps Ethernet cable. The upload is correct though
I'm on FTTC via PlusNet.

ok, I get you, I can't really talk about traffic management because if I say the wrong thing, or put it in a none VM way, I would cause complaints and people tend to quote ..

VM appear to be killing any volume of traffic on 563 but leaving 443 completely unmanaged - or at least they are right now on my 50Mb connection.

from reading the site there are plans to increse upload speeds, and throttle those back for heavy users across the board.
i regularly download steam games and find that the limit is steam not the connection, downloading 1 thing i get 5-6mbs, 2 gets 5-6mbs per item.
at the min servers on the main can't upload as fast as the 50mb will download and tats where you limit is.

You've misunderstood. We are not talking about AMOUNT of data, we are talking about TYPE of data.
As before see http://shop.virginmedia.com/help/tra...nt-policy.html 1st paragraph under the heading file sharing "This policy, which applies to all broadband packages...". VM have to post this BTW under OFCOM rulings, but make it as hard as possible to find as they can get away with... (IMHO)

The tech wouldn't have set the router up for you... or at least he shouldn't ... not allowed to touch the customers PC .. so its easier to just tell them to call in if they get stuck ..
Agreed, you should of been given a router too .. even if you don't need it, its part of the install.
