It isn't an issue to me personally as i ignore most of them, but untill the retards who can't tell the difference between a Muslim and a Muslim Extremist stop stirring crap, people will get offended.
Thankfully most people do know the difference. There will always be the odd person who doesn't but is it better to ban them and be done with it, or let them be shown up for what they are (within reason)?
And again, through discussions, minds can be changed. Maybe those who really have a problem and can't tell the difference can have that perspective changed by speaking to others, particularly our Muslim friends on here. I think it's important too, that they have a chance to air their views. I would hope people who may be offended realise that the majority here are not of the opinion that 'all Muslims are evil'.
So when we loose valued members like ERA, who take offense to the anti-Muslim brigade, is that ok?
Then people post asking why the old members aren't around anymore?
Take a look at NSR and see what it has become.
I would rather see some well balanced (heated) discussions on here than things start to get banned just because they contain a reference to a religion and questioning it or whatever. It is a much more healthy situation for the board as a whole. I am always sorry to loose long-term members of good standing but often people leave for more that just one reason and one reason alone.
i guess 95% of the members are able to discuss issues without getting nasty and the best practice would be to get rid of those (through banning) who cannot keep it civil or want to spread hatred and extreme views.
It would be easier to walk away than to actually stand your ground and argue a point and make it well - IMHO
The mods do a good job by and large, if things or people are out of order then we the users must report them and the systems in place generally deal with them. It is up to us the users to also help police the board and also not to feed the trolls and trouble makers.

Completely agree, if they deleted too many posts they'd get grief for it.
I'm just stating that from an 'outsiders' point of view (i don't normally post in the anti-Muslim threads) it doesn't come accross well, both the volume or the content of the threads.

If someone takes offense at discussing important issues like extremist beliefs and hate being taught in schools what does that say about them?
Regardless of faith or culture defending such actions by claiming I'm a racist is disgusting you should be ashamed of yourselves.
If a BNP member was somehow teaching similar things in schools would you have had the same reaction? I say your the one being racist. sorry to make this a little heated but crying wolf on behalf of the real racist people really winds me up! To ban free speech will only serve to make your problem worse. if you believe my opinions are wrong let me know as I have for you.
BTW I don't necessarily believe you are of a different race, not that it makes a difference (before you imply racism agian) just that you are a lefty do-gooder!

I've often said that truth springs from argument amongs friends. Maz was probably my closest 'cyber-friend' on here and I like him (and his whinging brother) very much but, this issue is more important than that. The only
way to resolve the Islamism issue within NSR (and out in physical World) is through discussion; each 'side' speaking openly and honestly and doing their very best to understand the different positions. This breeds respect and tolerance and actually promotes liberalism and secularism which surely is what we all want. Taking offence quietly and (if you'll forgive the unfortunate word) being a martyr isn't noble, it undutiful and cowardly. Moderate Islam needs to do its bit.

(I'll go back to ignoring these threads now)
One of the main reasons the topic keeps cropping up is because when we get to the crux of the matter one or two contributors derail the discussion. I think this is because they either have friends who are Muslims and don't want them to be upset or they broadcast that there isn't an issue and thus, when it becomes apparent there is one, they quickly try to close the debate down so as not to have their position invalidated. The very best thing that can happen is to let the debate run its course so that it doesn't keep resurfacing. It's ironic that the very people that complain about the exposure these threads are getting are the very ones who keep them at the top of the front page. As an example look at the first half dozen posts on this thread.
Back on topic, I did a bit of research into Saudi Arabia due to a post on another forum I frequent and it's quite shocking actually. I wouldn't put anything past a nation who thinks it's OK to forceably take westerners, including their children, to a public beheading in order for them to "know how things get done around here."
Also I am not surprised by anything I hear when a woman who has been raped, gets found guilty of adultery and could be lashed or stoned.
This is an apparently civilised society where the Koran is taken out of context in order to have people shaking in their boots if they put a foot wrong. And if you do, don't think that you'll get a fair trial.
Replying to this post and the point is westerners get preferntial treatment.
errr exactly what jt said the first time 'whats your point' does this somehow defend thier backward way of living??? i mean come on who calls a rape victim an adulterer and she may be stoned/lashed to top it off!!! but its ok though they treat americans like royalty!!!! haha
