Going with what anger has said, the thing is to get my car up to and capable of 450bhp i'm thinking is probably going to cost me around the £5k mark or maybe even more I as i'm unable to do any of the work myself, where as a P1 with 450bhp is going to return me hopefully at least £1k if I was to sell my car.

With that in mind, i'm thinking a P1 with 450bhp and £6k or a 05 STI with 450bhp, the P1 seems more attractive proposition plus I've never had one and have always thought about it, although the worst thing would be to regret it and I understand what Tony says so confused all over again
Thanks Robert

All valid points Tony but your newage is a spec c and is a far better car to a 05 sti, I have to disagree and having a type 25 and a 450/450+ classic I know which one I found more exciting and more fun to drive, the bonus point to look at is rather than out laying 5-6k you can have a well sorted classic type r or p1, the OP can scratch an itch he clearly has and if he decides he does not like it he can sell it on with very little loss and then buy another newage, could even at that point hold out and put the extra cash he was going to spend and more likely pick up something like mervs 2.1 blobeye.

If he sticks with the newage and mods it the car will owe him best part of 15k that he will not get 2 thirds of it back if he then wants to scratch that itch.

OP get a test drive could not stress that enough

Unlike Tony I can't see you being disappointed in a classic with that power and if you try it this way round you have nothing to loose as I said you could sell it on loose very little to nothing then go back and buy a newage Jdm sti

Issue lies in do you really want to drop 5-6k that you won't get back on a car?

Steve, also some good points but look at the issues here, straight away your paying for a paint job on the rear arches (trust me, there isnt many a P1 out there that doesnt need it doing), anywhere from a few hundred to 1k+ for new arches
That P1 is 5 years older than the MY05 STI, thats 5 years wear on the rest of the car (diffs etc) that the MY05 wont have (plus even a PPG gearset isnt as strong as a new age 6 speed box ).
As for loss of money, it will cost the OP probably 2-3k to get his car up to 400bhp, its not expensive on a new age, plus the MY05 is closer to a Spec C than you know its incorporated all the upgrades the Spec C had that made it a better car (geometry, thicker arb's, A-DCCD etc).

90% of the people that have advanced from a classic to a new age dont look back, I even gave the same advice to Rickya, he had the same scratch but misses the new age more than the classic.
The OP will be disappointed going to a classic, just have a test drive and be done with it, you wont miss it after that

Tony

well to the OP you have two very valid points from either side, and i think the only thing me and tony agree on is the fact that you need to go and test drive both as at the end of the day you are the one that needs to live with it day in day out

what ever you do i wish you all the best and hope you enjoy your new P1 as you will know it makes sense
