Congratulations Chris. Me and Nat had her 20 week scan today at hospital and found out we're having a boy. We both wanted to know and went on a mini spending spree to Meadowhall afterwards. We were going to do the 4D baby scan later this month but decided against it in the end..

Best of luck buddy!

The genitalia are not fully formed until aprox 16 weeks. It Is sometimes obvious sooner depending on the size of things, and the type of scan you have, but at 12 weeks there is no definately way to tell.

Remember we all start off as women!

Our doctor said that the gential 'bump' which is present at 12 weeks, either points towards the spine or away, depending on the sex.

Yes, this 'bump' can be seen, and if you were to have an in depth scan at 12 weeks, with a good amount of fluid and baby in a 'favourable' position, you might be able to see the direction of the 'bump'.

Leave it another 3-4 weeks and you can be pretty much 100% with a 4d scan.

I wouldn't like to pay for a private scan at 12 weeks when it is still quite difficult to see the 'bits'.

Wasn't difficult at all. It was quite clear in the scan. He showed us what the difference would be and you could clearly see what he was referring to.
We went for the private scan as I have my reasons for not trusting the NHS. Yes, some NHS staff are great, some are murderers in white jackets.
Finding out the sex was just a bonus and we are not going to buy anything until after xmas.

Well that's positive! It wasn't obvious with mine until later, and I had a fair few with my daughter.
