and presumably with no forced entry the insurance company assume you left the car unlocked and refuse to payout

This happened to myself and my next door neighbour about 6 months back.

All on CCTV.
On both cars were 100% that we locked the car. I was sure some kind of EM device had been used!!!

Guy walks upto both cars and just opens the doors.

We played the CCTV back and neither of us locked our cars!
We were sure we had done, but both of us just got out and walked off.

She lost quite a bit of stuff (laptop etc) but our car was empty.

Anyway, as already said, the only way to open a car is to prevent the car getting the lock code with a jammer (unless you have a lot of kit!). But this did not happen in our case - they just walked around trying door handles and random!

Seems to happen quite a bit TBH as over the last couple of years I think almost every car in the street has been done at one point or another in the same way.

So remember to lock your doors! I now have a "beep beep" type alarm to make sure I know I locked up! I also tend to try the door handles when I walk our dog, and in the last 6 months the car has been open 3 or 4 times!
