UPDATE 28/10/10
Well, my job was to sort this lot out!!
Was considering using the Subaru loom complete to run the whole car, then had a change of heart
Chose to just use the ECU to run the engine. So, had to make up a loom to fit the car!
Whilst I was busy with that, Scooby removed the engine and box, fully wetted it, fitted the clutch and flywheel and re-fitted it all. Then he moved onto this...
Because of the way we have cut the engine bay out from the ImpreZa, we didn't have the mount to brace the clutch pedal, so it was a bit 'wobbly'!!
So, Scooby came up with a way to brace the clutch pedal and brake pedal at the same time
That should help brake feel
Because I was still 'fafing' with the loom, Scooby decided to finish something we had started earlier....
Rear subframe starting to look really good
In this time, I'd managed to reduce down the loom a little. In fact, this is the piccie of the loom after we had ran the engine. It's not finished as I'll tidy it all up and mate it to the original car loom later.
We haven't got that many piccies as we were using a camera with only a 32MB card in it!!

I've just joined and read all of this thread, and as someone who still owns his MK1 XR2 he's had from new plus another rally one in pieces in the workshops I am very impressed! Plus I've also built a few rally cars etc in my time and have just purchused a '96 WRX to build into a gravel rally car for Cyprus I'm now re-thinking!!

Well, to be fair, not a lot got done in November (Courses, work and other stuff!), December (Work and that Christmas thing!) and January (Work out of the country and lot's of Snowboarding ) So it's now February and what's been done?? ...................
LOTS!!
The 2 of us have taken leave at the same time so it's full steam ahead
This, if you remember was how we dealt with the diff cradle mount.
And this was how we set up our extended tramp bars (probably called trailing arms?? )
Well, we started to look at our rear anti-roll bar and was trying to see where it would fit and what we would use!
After playing with a fiesta bar, then the subaru bar, we came to a traumatic realization!!
We hadn't given the rear roll bar enough thought/respect and had mistakenly thought we would be able to fit it in anywhere at the back. This wasn't to be the case!!
So, when we finally worked out something had to be done, we decided the diff cradle arms were in the way. This actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise as Scoobs wasn't entirely happy with where we had mounted the arms and also they were going to be in the way of the air flow to the radiator!!
So, we set about having a bit of a change round
We decided we wanted to mount the support arms closer to the front of the diff carrier, replicating where they are mounted in an ImpreZa and to also move them closer to the Fiesta floor so it moved them out of the air flow.
Please forgive us, because it's been a while since we have worked on it, we forgot to take piccies until mid morning so we have missed the first few!!
Our new/revised cradle support arms. We have modded them so we can take it apart to remove/fit
Empty, nothing fitted apart from rear cradle
Diff, diff cradle and new support arms and starting to fit suspension with our new link arms.
So, with everything fitted up and now having some more room, we knew we would have to fit the roll bar in front of the cradle, so we had to change round our link bars.
This lead to problems with the drop links hitting the bottom of the struts! So, we decided to make new brackets for the drop links so they would fit higher (or lower when the cars on it's wheels )
Old brackets cut off and bars cleaned up/linished.
New brackets made up and trial fitted.
Drop links trial fitted and clearance no longer a problem
So, suddenly a lot going on and a lot of too-in and fro-in meant with a lot of other things to think about, we forgot piccies again!!
We offered up the original ImpreZa roll bar and decided it would work.......well, it would if we cut the ends off
We decide we would 'adjust' the ends and fit our own 'blade' ends!!
With a little help from some friends, we had our 'blades' and an 'endless' bar, so all we had to do now was work out how we was going to fit it
We had a good look at it all and we worked out we could pick up on our already present chassis rail. We decided to use the original brackets to make fitting a lot easier
So, it was time to box our chassis rails in and what better to use than some high quality aircraft spec steel
With the fixing brackets cut down, we started to work out where it was all going to fit and the best way to mount it all
Due to the lengths of the fixing bolts, we decided to drill some holes for them to pass through
With them in the right place (well, where we wanted them anyway ) it was time to 'welderize' them and box them in.
Then it was time to fit the blades and of course, they needed welderizing as well
To make sure we got good penetration from the welds, we heated the blades/bar before welding
We finished up the ends to make them look better.
(That handsome fella in the background is the welding god/genius Scooby )
So, it was fitting time and everything looks GREAT!! To say we were happy with that, would be a bit of an understatement
A reminder of our trailing arms/tramp bars. We always knew we weren't going to leave them like that, and with some in-line adjusters ordered, we decided to make our new arms
New arms, cut then bent, welded then braced with some 'gussets'. New brackets made then welded to the new arms and then braced.
Were we pleased?? Oh yeh
All our new kit fitted and connected. Hopefully our adjusters will turn up tomo so with them fitted I believe that's the back end of our car (suspension/drive train wise) finished
Not bad for 2 days work eh and we've still got at least another 5 days to go (it will probably slow right down now )
