Evo to Subaru
I agree jdm as well, although I went for a my05 jdm sti, I missed the burble at first, but you soon get used to the sound of the twinscroll, power delivery is better and although I considered a spec c I decided that the difference between the 2 cars was minimal for what I need it for and I wanted the tinted rear glass, rear wash wiper etc, but I have driven a UK bug sti prodrive and they are still good cars, insurance for me was the same for a uk or jdm, but if I had bought a ppp uk car it would have been more. Only issue with jdm's is finding one, took me about six months before I found one for sale worth viewing, Only downside I can see to owning a jdm is the six month servicing, but the interim is only an oil change so not a big deal.
what about this one

keep an eye out as i got a my05 jdm for less than 10k from a renault dealer of all places. They are about but take a bit of finding and bit of luck. I hunted autotrader and pistonheads for ages. In fact when I found the one I bought it wasn´t even advertised as jdm I could just tell from the pics. Glad I held out though.
Unfortunatly my insurance company are being right dicks and have given me two weeks to find a new car or my policy will be canceled, seeing i have 6 months left and paid £1450 they will only refund me £300!
How about a JDM blobeye with a 2.5 conversion and hybrid turbo ?
Could save some modding and get something with a proven background.

This one is in good condition, as I had it on loan whilst mine was in to rebuild the suspension, seems to have a more compliant ride than the upgraded ASTs, even though it has 18" PFF7 wheels.
No funny noises or obvious piston slap, either.

I don't think you'll regret the move at all. I've had various versions of both and prefer the impreza, I always thought I'd 'upgrade' to an evo but when I did I soon went back. I tried again on more than one occasion but evos are very linear in their power delivery in comparison. Infact the only STD evo I'd probably like is the one everyone moans about, fq400.. The lag might make it feel fast. I even tried a 400bhp evo 6 but my sti type r with 2.5 and 20g 'felt' far grunter, Im sure on paper it was probably slower but for me it's about fun and the turbo shove on the road.
The other thing I prefer is the feel of the drive, the evos feel so flighty and the steering is too light.
I've even owned both an evo and impreza at the same time on more than one occasion but since finances (children) dictate less disposable income the single car I now have is an impreza sti.
