I see the case's have come out, or are coming soon. But for the amount of time I had to take them out and use them, they are ok as they are. If a case is over 3 quid then I wouldn't bother, because it really doesn't need it.

I wouldn't bother buying any of these usb's that are designed for the job, as you have discovered they use cheap parts, so they are not updatable.

Not had to use any of the buttons on the Minimus either.

 

Question is how do you transfer files that's been downloaded as it's a fat system and got the 4gb limit?

 

PS3 use FAT32(which have limit just 4GB).
Best way is buy external HDD,this convert via Windows to NTFS(add files etc.)and after everything is just again convert to FAT32.

 

That won't work. A PS3 won't see an NTFS drive, so you can't move it that way.

You have to use an FTP client, and the PS3 FTP programs. There are a few now. All pretty slow.

Took me 4 hours to transfer 11GB over a wired connection!
Its currently the only way.

I'd like to think they will be able to release some kind of Winzip, WinRar homebrew program for the ps3. So you can move large files, split into smaller fils, and rejoin on PS3.

 

PS3 won't see NTFS drive(you must convert to FAT32,if you want use on PS3).
This is easiest way and working without one issue.
If you have spare HDD and USB HDD dock,try this:
1.add big file on your HDD which is in NTFS
2.after convert this NTFS HDD to FAT32 via Windows or any program
3.enjoy game or something different

 

That's what I thought, I've noticed there's a update for the FTP porgram people saying it's a bit faster.

What packages will I need to get him started, do I just put the .ipk files
On the flash dongle or Any USB to install the packages?

 

Converting NTFS to FAT32, isn't that only done by formatting? So wiping any info on the drive.

 

You put them on any usb.
Best to get:
PS3 FTP server and a File manager. With that you can move from USB HDD to internal, or vice versa.

I take it youv'e done this a few times? What about converting Fat back to NTFS, lose any info that way?

i installed the snes emulator - im impressed it seems to run ok they just need to add a few tweek options to it like full screen etc

I also installed the new update of the FTP server much faster and stable

 

You can only convert FAT to NTFS and not the other way round. As has been mentioned, you'll need to do a full format on a drive if you wish it to be NTFS.
Therefore for me it would appear the only option you have is to use the FTP program on the PS3...

Just go to the Command Prompt and execute the command:

C:\> CONVERT C: /fs:ntfs

Where C: is a name of the drive you want to convert.

After machine re-boot conversion process will start and you'll have your FAT32 converted to NTFS without of data loss.

 

Thats OK for me. I use the internal one for everything. Just need to move files there.
Its interesting that I've never seen this mentioned in the quest for getting 4GB+ video files on the PS3.

 

Hold on. Must have read this wrong earlier.
It doesn't help. I need the PS3 to see FAT32, not NTFS. All the links are about converting FAT32 to NTFS, which the PS3 can't see.
So back to square one, like Nick has said.

You get this message if you change the command to fat32:

CONVERT is not available for NTFS drives.

 

You can convert NTFS to FAT32 or versa,just you are need Paragon Partition Manager or similar program.

my dads ps3yes came today got it up and running very easy , also he ftp'd fifa 11 to the internal drive took 15-20mins to do the 9gb folder.

very impressed

What's the advantages of putting up-to date hex files. I put hermes v3.0 on the ps3yes.

 

your lucky you can update I cant update my ps3 break as its PIC based not sure on the updates past yours but the more it can do the better

That was the fix for games that had controller issues, F1 and Street Fighter IV.

Impressive that you FTP'd in around 15-20 minutes. I did Spiderman at 11GB, and it took a few hours, on a wired connection!

 

I just followed a guide how to set up the FTP settings.

Using filezilla, blackbox FTP 1.2, wired through a router.

This is what I followed

Host - This is the address given to you on the PS3 FTP program.
Port - 21
Logon Type - 'Normal'
User - FTPD12345
Pass - Anything you like

Click the 'Transfer Settings' tab.

Transfer mode - 'Active'
Limit number of simultaneous connections - Tick this box
Maximum number of connections - 1

Connect

 

I left my settings as they were and just filled out ps3 ip info and I got roughly the same speed

I send over 1 gb of snes games in no time at all
