Well, what a complete goon the tester is.

After i informed him ( in a polite and matey manner) that the car required a non-cat test (for all the reasons previously discussed in this and other simular threads) he totally ignored me and proceeded with a cat test, ffs
As i had a good idea of what was coming i decided to grab an MOT leaflet and phoned VOSA. I explained my circumstances, and the nice lady informed me that, YES sir, you are correct, that vehicle does indeed require a NON-CAT test .

So over he comes with the fail sheet:

N/S Headlight aim high.
Tell-tail on fog light switch not working.
O/S/F Brake pipe leaking.
Service brake juddering severly.
And yes, you've got it, Emissions!

So, i proceed to ask him how he managed to find my car, or an 'exact match' in the book.

It's easy he says, put in, Subaru ->Impreza ->Version 8.

WTF i ask in not so many words.

Well on your vin number it says GC8, which makes it a v8. (Mmmm STi)

Yeah, i know, un-*******-believable

Any how, after me quoting 7.3 this and that, and telling him that the WRX wasn't even available in the UK till 1999, and telling him i've just spoken to VOSA and they confirmed what i said.

He says, i'm not arguing with you, if you can prove that i'm wrong then i will retest using the non-cat values. I've done loads of these and they always go through like this blar blar blar

So i've emailed VOSA asking for conformation via email.

I can't stand incompetence or arrogance. He will learn next week.

Rant over!

my brother took his track prepared Honda Fireblade to an MOT tester and asked for a Daylight MOT (no lights needed - apart from bake light)

the MOT tester refused to believe him - saying "i have been testing for 20 yrs and have never heard of it"

he had to be shown the DVLA manual

to be honest bud once id found a severly leaking brake pipe/union or flexi brake hose i would abort the test as you cant expect to achieve correct service brake readings,do you know what sort of brake tester he used ? not a 2 wheel roller brake tester i hope !

The bloke is a total **** mate.

It's actually the n/s/f brake line, so a short easy run. I have some suspicions as to how it came to leak, but i'll say no more.

He used the accelerometer thingy in the footwell, and then told me how cr@p my brakes are compered to 'all' the other ones he had done. As for 'very bad judder'. All i'm doing is fixing the tell-tale and putting a new bit of brake pipe in.

Also got an advisory for 'loud exhaust'. Idiot

cant believe he found a brake fluid leak and still proceeded to give it a decelerometer test, total *******! for the aim just pop it against the wall and tweak the offside headlight adjuster down bud,if he still wont pass it on emmisions ask him to print off an appeals form on the vts device, that should see his attitude alter and he might listen.

Default Reply From VOSA

Update: Reply from VOSA.

"Dear Mr B,

Thank you for your email enquiry dated 23rd September 2010, concerning an emissions test.

The 'In Service Emissions' booklet is a UK specification booklet. If the
vehicle is an import then this information would not be captured in this
booklet. As the vehicle in question is an imported vehicle then depending
on the age would depend on whether the vehicle would be required to go
through a non-CAT test or whether it would go through a CAT test using the
default limits.

You have stated that vehicle registration B13 BAT is a 1993 vehicle. Due
to this the vehicle would be required to go through a non-CAT test and need
to meet the following limits:

CO <= 3.5%
HC <= 1200ppm

I hope this information has assisted you with your enquiry, but if you have
any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Kind Regards

Rebecca
VOSA Contact Centre
Operations Directorate
Tel: 0300 123 9000"

Think that clears it up nicely .

Just re-booked it and spoken to the tester, he seemed in a better frame of mind today . He asked me what i had for him, so told him i had a email from VOSA and a print out of how to read the applied model code, he said "yeah thats fine, we'll sort it out". I think he may have a personality disorder
Friday 1600, we will see .

Especially by a 43 year old boy racer in his pimped up rally slag .

I can't remember ever paying for a re-test. Although he is with-in his rights to charge me, as i have removed the vehicle from the VTS. Fingers crossed it's freebie .

Well, i re-presented today, showed him the VOSA email, and, YES it passed, total cost, £4 for a piece of brake pipe.

Funny thing is though, he never did an emissions test, i didn't even get a print out.

Can he use the values from the fail to say that it passed??
