That was the one good thing about the Ibiza, the BMWs loose their nerve when they can see your in a **** piece. Mind you they wouldnt be in that position if they weren't regularly cutting me up.

I'm not sure why it amazes people that so many road users are selfish/rude/bad mannered/don't pay attention. This is increasingly the way things are going and it's in no way restricted to the roads. People are just becomming more and more self centred and/or stupid. Nothing wrong with complaining about it, but don't be surprised by it.

We have a road in a town centre nearby where you have a left turn only lane and a lane to go straight over and right (traffic lights on this junction so when the lights go green, there is no oncoming traffic to cause a hold up in the right hand lane, it just tends to be busier as mos people wish to go straight ahead or right) . For the most part, buses use the left hand lane (heading to the bus station), but at many times there will be none, so what do you get... some tit fly down the left hand lane towards the lights and cut someone up as they want to go straight ahead. It pisses me right off as other people aren't sitting in a little bit of a queue for the good of their health, they are where they are supposed to be. It's an accident waiting to happen purely because you have people that are too selfish. Lets see how much time it saves them when they plough into someone.

Btw, this happens on a regular basis and isn't restricted to a certain make of car.

Had some stupid bint in a zafira pull out without indicating on a 60 road (I was doing 60, not more), she was about 80 yards in front when she pulled out (slowly) so I slowed down due to her not looking and the stupid cow brake tested me ffs not my fooking fault she didnt look where she was going, then she continued down the road at less than 40mph (still a national limit )
Fecking women drivers

It's the aspirational middle-class types, they are so caught up in trying to climb the social ladder that they don't dare treat mechanics with equinimity or else they will feel like they slipped back down.

We'll for what its worth - second day in a row I've had the unfortunate experience of poor etiquette on the road
Some auld b@stard in a toyota carina - varying between 35 and 40 in a 60 zone in the overtaking lane.
Flashed lights - did he pull over, **** no.
He increased speed by maybe 10 mph, had to undertake.
And he stayed in that lane too - we'll for as long as I was able to see in the rear view mirror.

It is usually down to the individual rather than the car he is in. Sometimes the type of car seems to make a difference though.

The reason they have those signs up in advance is to allow motorists to gradually move over so as to keep the traffic moving. People who drive right up to the end of the lane closure force the traffic in the remaining lanes to slow / stop in order to let them in, which leads to a traffic jam.

If your driving along on the motorwary normally and you know your junctions coming up, you move over a little before you get there so you can take the exit hastle free. You dont go flying up the outside lane, slam the breaks on and dive accross the traffic just about making exit point do you?

Shouldnt be doing same on a filter. Its not filtering if the traffic isnt moving or has slowed dramtically.
You're from West London and you've seen a traffic restriction with moving traffic or even quickly moving traffic? I don't believe it. It's all like Southhall cross at 9AM on a weekday.

These days the traffic seems to stop a good mile before any lane closure. Then the awkward 3-4 lanes merging into one begins. The traffc is always moving faster and more regularly closer to the restriction in my experience, as most of any filtering and dodging around has already occurred. That's unless there's been an incident which has stopped the lot. In which case, everyone's stuffed anyway.

Two articulated lorries side by side with about a mile of clear road in front of them doing 5mph, that usually stop the numpties cutting in at the last minute, and keeps the traffic ahead moving

And it's funny as **** watching them swerving left and right and flashing their lights in my rear view mirrors whilst myself and the other trucker have a chin wag, a brew and roll a smoke

And a queue a mile longer tham it needs to be behind you possibly delaying people who will not even reach the restriction but want to get off at a junction before it. Yes very clever and are you sure you are in proper control of your HGV whilst "rolling a smoke"

I think you will find the although the queue is longer the traffic continues to mover at a steady speed with less chance of further incidents as every one behind is travelling at the same speed and not flying up each others ***** and slamming on. I have in the past been instructed to do this by plod, vosa and highways agency.
You would not get to that junction any quicker if i was not there as it would be square wheeled with idiots using lane 1 as a undertaking lane to cut in further up. It is far safer, more economical and less stressful to crawl along at a contant 5-10mph than stop-start, accelerate-brake driving is.

As for being in proper control at 5-10mph, yes of couse we are

I'm not sure I believe this to be honest - what is the point of the "Merge in Turn" signs that are more often than not now placed at the point of restriction (not that anyone pays them any attention) who puts those up as according to you everyone who has any kind of authority in this area seems to have appointed you as unofficial traffic management operatives with the specific task of making the whole process as inefficient as possible.

There is only one sensible way to deal with these situations which is the aforementioned "merge in turn" or "zip" merging and the sooner the idiots who somehow consider this to be queue jumping and self appointed "kings of the road" HGV drivers realise this the better it would be for everyone.

As usual an accurate description of general attitudes these days and it is of course getting worse.

Less and less people seem to have any idea of good manners or consideration for others.

Most down here in the West Country still have that old sense of thinking of others particularly when it comes to driving on our narrow roads. It is so obvious how different it is upcountry when the holiday visitors arrive. They have not the first idea of how to use the roads in a fair or safe manner and try to bulldose their way through constricted areas with the ever shouting square mouths when it is not even their right of way, and driving far too fast along tight parts of the road or round blind corners. Totally selfish way to go about it.

Southall at rush hour - I'd just get back in bed.

I find it annoying when the micra brigade find the need to get over 2 miles before the end of the filter as well. They usually slow right down, take forever to mover over, and slow down two lanes of traffic in the process.

You have to be sensible about these things, dont do it early, and dont leave it to the last minute.

Staples Cross fly over is the example I would use - drive it every day. Most the traffic get over within a reasonable distance, say by 200yds before the filter. However there will always be one rear end oraphis who goes flying up the out side lane and then tries to cut in. He slows the entire lane hes cutting into if not stops them. That my friends is not considerate driving.
