Default The Springboard that never was

A lot has been written about the springboard the Arsenal team were hoping to use to get their four trophy crusade off to a flying start.

Wenger admitted late on Monday night that they sent young Bendtner to check out the springboard only to be told it was too scarey by the Danish hitman so everyone thought better of it

Or alternatively it has been reported that there was a queue forming and they couldn't be arsed

We have been ****e, absolute pony. But Barca have been superb

Bender missed a great chance but i cant blame it all on him. Defence have done well imo just outclassed and out played but brilliance

To think i thought we had a good chance tonight

I'm disgusted with the ref ... such an important game & he makes 2 fookin howlers Barca were good of course, it's just so annoying when the game gets taken away by forces you can't control

As well as Barca played i think with 11 on the field we would have had a good chance, and bendtner if only the guy could control a ball, my heart ws beating out of my chest when wilshire put the ball through.

Almunia must have had a few weetabix this morning, he did good.

We really do need to invest in the summer because if we keep becoming nearly men it can't do any good for the confidence of all these young players.

united fan here and even i felt pissed off with the ref, many free kicks and a couple of penalty shouts and the ref just turned a blind eye, yet a barca player fell over yards away from anyone then its a deffinate foul. the stats don't look great for arsenal but most of the shots and passes were after rvp was sent off for a 1 second offence.

my last point is the comentary after the game on sky, is it me or souness the biggest **** in the world, there was even a shot of jeff stelling looking at him like he was some sort of nutter that had just walked in and didn't really know what he was talking about.

I couldn't understand why he couldn't see that if Van persie hadn't been sent of we could have stood a chance, yes Barca would have kept coming at us but it wouldn't have been as easy as it was.

If we had been beaten with 11 on the field then fair play to barca, but your left with what could have been, and a bit of a sour taste.

Also the barca player had Van persie by the throat and nothing was done about that.

Never mind always next year, hope we can put in a decent performance on saturday otherwise i can see this season crumbling, like seasons past.

Must admit in the back of my mind I wanted a knock back for Arsenal ahead of Sats game but they are one of the only other english teams I like to see do well in Europe (prob as my old man supports them). The 2nd yellow was an utter disgrace in a game like that. Someone just said to me (admittedly a spurs fan) that he was lucky not to get another yellow in the 1st half (I left the room at that point to make some pancakes).

Barca may have had all the posession and the passes but they were pressured enough to head the ball in their own net. They all fall over with relative ease - yes all of us inc Utd have such players - but their whole team seem to do it.

That said you have to look at what Arsenal offered before and after the sending off an it doesnt make good reading. Relying on an own goal to stay in it as well as Almunia having an absolute blinder.

RVP was unlucky, only saw the incident live and for me he did look as if he had heard it, there was a brief pause and the keepers positioning were tell tale signs, but that is no reason to send a guy off.
Disagree with Wengers comments that **** could have gone through had RVP not been sent off, mind you had the ball been at RVP's feet instead of Nicklas "Look out Barca I'm back to my best" Bendtner then it would have been in the back of the net.

No shots on or off target, I dont think I have ever seen that before and Barca weren't that good that you couldn't get near there box.

The way the media are going on it is as if this is the best team that has ever graced a footy pitch, dont think so, yes best team in the world at present but the Barca team with Stoichkov and Romario and the AC side with Guillet, Van Basten and Rijkaard, the original Real Galactico's were just as good if not better at times.

Arsenal need some men in the team, a decent centre half a la Adams and a decent central midfielder like Paddy, someone who will scare the **** out of the opposition.

Cesc is too much of a ***** to be captain, Wilshere looks captain material in a couple of years, I'm sure we wont go hugging the opposition before the whistle has even blown.

Dont worry you'll win on Sunday

The sending off didn't change the game significantly as VP had offered nothing up to that point.

VP is a much better player than Bendtner, but he wasn't fit and Bendtner could have at least provided an out ball, or if not him Chamakh was on the bench

Arsenal's Plan A works well but if it doesn't, there is no plan B.

Im not even a gooner fan but I have to disagree. After the sending off Barca had far more space and posession which one would always expect but doenst always happen in the Prem league. But with a gifted passing team like Barca it highlights even more any gaps.

Me too if we scrape through, Saturday could be a season defining game for both our teams, both look shot to pieces mentally and physically

If it was a league game I'd probably agree, thankfully it isn't
