STEP or IGES would probably be the easiest, but just about any 3d file can be imported.

Thumbs up FEA - the way forward.

Chris,

You’d do well to take this mans advice! ^

You should do a lot of FEA long before you cut any metal…

I started to develop my own 6-pot calipers a couple of years back. It’s very hard to engineer a 2-piece caliper whilst maintaining rigidity. It just wants to open up like a hinge (as Paul mentions).

My design was based around an AP pad, using existing Subaru pistons and seals.

For me, it got to the stage where I’d rather spend £1K on a decent set of proven AP callipers. As opposed to spending a lot of £ developing something that could be unreliable or potentially dangerous!!

You are in a better position to engineer something like this, you have your own machine shop and have access to numerous cars in which to prove your design on. – I of course wish you the very best of luck.

I’d defo take up Paul’s offer of some FEA. You may only need some small tweaks to your design.

Best of luck. I’ll be watching with interest.

Rob.
