Excellent map and output numbers from a 'bog standard' STI!
Would be interested to get your objective view of the Hawkeye Type RA (with the stiffer suspension goodies and set up) by comparison with your own car on track.

The car i'm driving at the weekend is a bit too modified to use as a comparison really.

Yep, the engine is very strong in my car, Richard at Tracktive did an excellent job, it's got fantastic torque which is what really matters on a road car.

A jdm sti may be all you need, unless you're going to specifically use a spec c for regular track days, etc.

As has been suggested, you really need to drive one.

i made my own mind up and that the blob and hawk spec c are both excellent cars.i personally think that the hawk sti(non spec c) was equally as good really,just that the driver made a mistake,it did look just as quick.i think all 3 were all as good as each other?

different I know but,spec c hawkeye vs my blob eye sti...the spec c is something of a masterpiece...the precision and shear grip you get with the spec c is staggering...

yeah but my budget says blob spec c or jdm hawk sti(non spec c) which one would u go for?

In most peoples hands I suspect the spec c would be no quicker than the sti.

What are you going to be using the car for?

road use,maybe an occasional trackday,i personally prefer the look of the hawkeye,so if the hawk sti is as good as a blob sti spec c,i would probably be inclined to go for the hawkeye sti.although a blob spec c can be had a bit cheaper?the mrs will also use the car so wouldnt want anything to raw? dont mind if it goes like stink tho.?

Registration costs are minimal (£50-£100 iirc)

SVA conversion and SVA test could be anywhere between £1500 and £2500 depending on who you use and how much you are being charged for using someone elses model report. This is based on things a few years back so prices may of changed now.

On top of that you would have Alarm fitment, road tax and plates.

You would be best off talking to the likes of Litchfield Imports, PCM etc to discuss current pricing and details.

Based on the value of the pound against the yen, it is now very expensive to import a JDM from Japan. This is one of the reasons why the JDM cars over here tend to hold their value. Nearly 50% of the Yen value has been wiped off against the pound, from it was like 2-3yrs back.

I asked about this yesterday on this thread and no one replied. The new IVA test doesn't require a model report, it looks, in theory, to be a lot easier to import the cars now.

I had a quick look yesterday on a few import agent sites, I found a couple of Spec C's(blobeyes) UK landed price was around £9K, not as bad as I thought. Also, it looks like cars over 10 years now just need a fog light, speedo conversion and a MOT. No model report and no SVA/IVA test.

hmm,might be worth researching how much roughly it will cost from the time car arrives in uk,to the time its on the road?how does the customs,taxes and charges work? would this be an extra cost that you pay seperately? havent got a clue about importing a car but would like to find out alot more as i think it will be well worth the time,hassle and effort.

That uncluded the taxes etc, not the test though, but as I said 10 years + cars now just need an MOT now.

I'd agree with that, I just need an Oil cooler now

STD spec C's are a bit basic for Family use so I would have gone a Hawk V-LTD or Toshi spec C

Clocks need the KMH changing to MH or MPH (just a sticker), but any company that does SVAing will sort all that out (kmh-mph conv, de restricting etc), google SVA or ESVA and you will get a rough cost and what is done.

Speedo is KM/H just black paint the K out of as M/H (acceptable) it needs to be iluminated, so don't put a MPH sticker over KM/H, mine goes up to 260 mph now

best to get ECU "Remap" to adjust/calibrate speedo pulse to indicate M/H and not KPh rather than a speedo adaptor IMHO IIRC

my mate came with Front HID's , as not auto levelling and no washers or something like that!!!! He had to swop a pair of std lights.

Also Fog light seperate on bumper to pass but afterwards, road legal if in rear light cluster IIRC

He trailler the Car to be ESVA'd tested 3 times doing most jobs twice before it passed

As tony says above get it done by a ESVA firm, they just swop bits so it passes and puts them back on after

oh i see,trying not to sound stupid here lol,but with the speedo surely you wont actually know the true speed you are doing if in kph? by just covering it with mph? wont it always still read in kph and driver not knowing at all the correct speed?

ok thanks,gonna make some enquries about this,i think if u pay 10k for a car in japan it will cost around 600 for shipping and then the dreaded vat and customs tax will probably total near to 2.5-3k.then the cost of the sva etc which im going to enquire about,on the road price must be somewhere between 13-14k?(roughly?)
