Most of this is pretty depressing reading. I have never really had any dealings with the Police, but always think they are dependable and trustworthy and people to help.

Sad if that isn't the case.

The key message in this thread is don't give the Police reason to have a chat with you in the first place

In response to saxoboy, I 100% agree as I am going through something similar at the moment with the police.

Last christmas I was sat at a table with a group of friends having a quiet drink when all of a sudden a riot erupted in the bar. 20-30 people all going for it, bottles and chairs flying everywhere and generally a mass punch up. At no point did I become involved even though I was knocked off my chair in the fracas. Everything was caught on cctv.

I have never been involved with the police, never once taken drugs, and would see myself as a mature middle class type family man. (Own home, responsible job, wife, children etc)

The police came in and arrested a few people that were heavily involved in the fracas. I was told to sit down at a seated area at the other side of the bar and await questioning before I was allowed to leave. After around 15mins of sitting there and getting a little impatient, I attempted to leave the bar and was forcibly told to sit down, the next thing I knew was a police officer coming across to me and calling me a junkie scumbag, he told me, he was sick fed up of people like me causing trouble and that I should get a job and grow up. I replied to him in a sarcastic way that I probably earned more than him and his colleague put together and I was certainly no junkie. He didn't like this, twisted me round and put me in handcuffs and out to the waiting police vans. I was put in the van and 1 of the officers came in, he said, you'll be sorry for that. I didn't take much notice at the time.

I was taken to the police station with around 6 or 7 others, all in seperate cars/vans. I got to the front desk and was charged with assault It was an assault charge on an unknown male, it simply stated as I walked past a man lying on the floor, I kicked him in the head I had honestly done no such thing, but apparently 2 police officers have stated that as they were escorting me from the bar they have seen me do this.

I was let out the morning after, went to court and did not enter a plead on advice from my solicitor. I was bailed and still am on police bail awaiting trial for the alleged assault.

My solicitor has reviewed the cctv footage and all the witness statements and at no point does it show me kicking out at anyone, nor does it show anyone injured on the ground 15mins after the fracas. Additional to that, the supposed male is unknown which seems strange to me as you would have thought that if someone was lying on the ground 15mins after the police had arrived that he would have been given medical attention and thus they would have had least had his name. There were no witness statements from any other individuals either bar the 2 police officers.

My solicitor has promised to rip the case to shreds should it be put in front of a judge.

However, this has not been pleasant for me, has caused me many sleepless nights with worry and is something dragging over me. They have until the end of the year to take this to court, and I still haven't heard anything.

It is my word vs that of 2 police officers. Like I said, I'm not a guy that has ever been in trouble, very rarely go out and a quiet family man kind of guy, I did not kick out at anyone.

I used to have respect for the police before this incident, but this has just sickened me. SB hit the nail on the head when he stated that the police generally deal with 'scum' so they have forgotten how to differentiate between the scum element and those that are not, they treat everyone like a criminal with little respect for anyone that they put into their cuffs.

Long post, but everything in the post is true and if I had have kicked out, I am the kind of guy that would have admitted it straight away, got my punishment and be done with it by now.

I could potentially end up with a criminal record for speaking back to a policeman about his profession.

What a crock. IMO they are teaching you a lesson for being lippy. Because they can. They will know exactly what evidence is available and are just letting you sweat.

In this case it is the police who are behaving like scum.... and they wonder why they don't get respect from us ... it is because they don't deserve it.

Hope it works out for you. Let us know how it goes.

Be thankful on the mainland that your police officers are chosen on their merits to do the job and not on their religion like over here in N Ireland. Its a ****ing joke, I was told by a police officer a few years ago, not to even bother applying due to the village that i live in.

PSNI are a ****ing joke, bring back the RUC all is forgiven!

That is brutal mitchy, but unfortunately this is the power that the police have. It should also be a leason for us all that they can be vindictive and down right lie - so try not to p*ss them off.

For example, if you are in the company of two police officers with nobody else around then they could, in theory, make up just about anything. Their two testomonies would be sufficient corroborated evidence to secure a conviction and no judge in the world would take the word of joe soap versus two cops with all other aspects of the case being equal.

I can't say I dislike all police officers, just because of one or two bad run ins, however it does leave me feeling that they do (on occasion) more harm than good.

Going back a few years my brother got jumped and had his teeth kicked out if his head. The officers who attended were pushy and agressive. They actually attempted to force a statement out of my brother while his teeth were hanging out of his face attached to his braces.
His clothes were saturated with blood and they tried to stop my mum taking him to the hospital so they could allow a police officer to take photos for evidence.

It was a horrible night, mostly for him, but very poorly dealt with by the police.

Thats terrible Hysteria, what was the outcome of all that. I hope those coppers were on the carpet for that behaviour. I would certainly expect an apology at least for that.

Not much happened to be fair, the bloke who did it got a few weeks community service abd has to pay 7p a month (or some other stupid amount) to my brother for a new set of teeth, as and when he needs them.

I would say to Mitchy 260 that I commiserate with him over the treament he got at the time but also that he was really unwise to make the smart remarks to the copper. It was unnecessary and although his treatment was wrong, the copper was doubtless under some pressure with the major bust-up they were dealing with.

He could not have expected to be allowed to leave until the coppers had cleared the whole affair up, you can only put that down to bad luck.

So here is the outcome, actually forgot about this thread

Turns out that it was all over the speeding ticket that had been sent to the previous owner.

I bought a car (MK2 Golf VR6) and got done speeding a few weeks later.
The NIP went to the previous owner, who brought it round to me.
I called up to admit that it was me driving, and was told that I can't give that info, it has to come from the person that the NIP was addressed to.
Gave the NIP back to the previous owner and told him to sort it out.
He did this and in a few weeks later i got the NIP in my name.

However the Police seem to have no record of anything and so Fife Constabulary contacted my local Police office to come round and sort out who was driving the car.
I had already admitted this twice!!!!

After being pissed about a few times with the police not showing up at the house when arranging to, I eventually lost the rag and he told me over the phone what this was all about.
Explained my story and that was that, everything sorted, except the fookin speeding fine, whick looks like I still have to pay.

Why this couldn't have been over the phone in the first place I'll never know.
4 days of worry for nothing.
