I wouldnt buy a penny chew from ktc let alone a car
The white spec c looks good its a 17 inch version but note my MY03 spec c limited with 22k (now, was 20k 2 months back ) was 2k less than that so if you go for it, barter hard.

There are some small changes between the bug and blob, the white one, well they only ever imported blue and black officially, it may be a demo car but you need the chassis number and check that with subaru uk as its the only white one anyone has probably seen, lots of good imitation sti's about so that one really needs looking into if your tempted by it.
I would also avoid anything that has been "decatted" and not remapped, these engines dont like it and it can cause engine issues (blown pistons, crank etc).

Just looked at the subaru brochure and stuff which I got when buying my Bugeye in 2002........the WRX and STi were available in white but as a special order.

They didn't change much from the UK bug to the UK blob, I think all they wanted to do was ditch the external shape !!

The black bug STi looks like a Prodrive style, limited to a run of 100

Make sure you see the Japanese auction report and get someone who knows what they are looking at to look over the car for you.

Lovely car, and without any criticism, is it really a 2.5 US lump rebuilt with cosworth internals ? and it looks like a JDM STI rather than a Spec C Feel free to educate me

AFAIK there were 5 Type 25 Blobs based on the spec C, the rest were based on the blob STi. The one in question looks to me like an STi ........ for a starter it's got no roof vent

Yes the old USDM 2.5 was rebuilt with Cosworth bits and rated at 415 BHP I believe.

I thought the Later hawkeye type 25's were based either on the Jap a-line or the Spec C ??

mk2 T25 was built from either A-line or spec C, with cosworth long engine (from the US site, not the Northampton one).

mk1 T25 was standard US 2.5 STI block, hybrid VF37 + other changes. Some 04 and 05 models around, not sure if all had the wide track common to the hawkeye sti. They do tend to get rebuilt with Cosworth kit, but I'd expect to see a receipt for the Cosworth parts as they were only introduced after Iain's collaboration with Cosworth US for the mk2 hawkeye.

I went to a mk1 after a '99 UK wagon (now in retirement next to the garage), the new age is a much more grown up car, it feels more stable in comparison. The gearing seems shorter than the UK car, even though 6th would go up to theoretical 170mph, so may be an irritation if you want to use it as a motorway eater.

Other than that, there's no comparison. Driving my old car felt like a gear was missing, I had to rev it much harder - it just didn't 'go'.

To the OP, good luck with the test drives.
