21 year old insurance, Help

it doesnt matter if your 18 or 81, end of the day insurance companies have always classed the young/younger drivers a high risk ( if you are or not ) and the old/older drivers not a high risk thats the way it has been since some of you have been a twitch in your fathers nut sack and its never goin to change so get over it and stop bleating, and no im not an insurance sales guy myself i have not long bought my 1st scooby and im paying £799 fully comp and im 29

Not really, your in the highest class for accidents and there are far less young drivers than older drivers but far more accidents, work that one out
Right, a traders policy is different to a private policy, plus you have to be a registered trader, it DOES have clauses in, quite a few actually, so read the small print, you may find your only covered 3rd party most of the time.
No it isnt.
I find its actually an easier test than I took, there is more theory involved with the new test, but harder..... you should have had my test instructor who took me for my test you wouldnt have passed!
I come across lots of younger drivers who want to sit 3 inches off my bumper whilst im doing 30 in a 30 zone as they have come flying up behind me (whilst im in my astra diesel), being a dick of a driver comes with any age, but most young drivers take really unecessary risks, which older drivers wont do.
If you want to know what experience gives you and think its doing more miles or driving a big truck (seen more than one of these just pull out without giving a toss for whats beside them), then your not experienced enough
Tony

I can't understand how you young blokes can even afford a scooby at 21! i had a decent paying job (well, 23k at 21 was pretty good), and I could just about afford to run a corsa diesel! the insurance on that was around 700 quid a year too!
Still, I was paying my first mortgage then too...

I was 21 when I got mine. It's all down to money. I don't have a mortgage I take home 12k a year I have a van for every day use. You have to think that the economy has collapsed so u can get a turbo 2000 for a grand. That's cheaper than buying a 306 gti 6 lol

Seems like a bit of an older vs younger war going on here.
Now, I'm 21 and have been driving Imprezas since I was 18 (paid £3,800 with Swinton on a '94 turbo 2000 when I was 18)
Never had an accident. I now have an Impreza P1, which I've had for a year.
Yes I am in the bracket of the younger generation that STATISTICALLY have more accidents. The reason I pay over the odds to have my Imprezas is;
a. because the statistics come from idiot show off chavs who think they are Michael Schumacher in their Corsas (believe me I get enough of them driving up my **** all the time)
b. why not? I love Imprezas, always have always will and will pay the price no matter what!
There are idiots out their of all ages (Older BMW drivers who are late to the office and speed and younger Corsa drivers who crash showing off in McDonalds car park)
I'd give any older driver on here respect if they gave it back. I'm not a menace, I know how to drive my car, I know where the limits are and how it behaves and I value my life, licence and car too much to take risks!
In April when my insurance is due I'll be 22 and with Admiral Multi Car, I've had the following quote
Subaru Impreza P1 (highest ins group!)
£850 Fully Comp for 12 months!
4 years experience
4 years no claims
Peugeot 205 XS
£250 3rd Party for 12 months
4 years experience
2 years no claims
Very good deal I think seeing as I was paying £1,600 for my first car with I passed my test (S Reg Ford Focus 1.8 LX)

i'd say 80% of young driver's drive to agressivley. we've all had it that someone comes flying up behind you and its a young lad in a 1.4 corsa bouncing with the sub in the back of the car thats rattling the windows out the frames.
that doesn't mean all are, but its definatly more common for them to be.
its not just about being able to handel the car its about decisions about situations and being aware of what might happen, that where experiance comes in.
if not carefull this can happen.
Wasn't my fault, walker crossed the road as i was comming down the road and i chose to go for the bank rather than the pedestrian, but if the same situation arose again i'd back off as soon as i saw the person, thats the experiance being mentioned.
im not gonna judge whats been said, but make one comment, the OP mentions it being quicker than standard sti's and some mod'd, how do you know that?

I get very annoyed being put in to the bracket of a bad young drivers who don't know how to handle a performance car (or any car for that matter) or abide by the law.
I'm preparing a 205 XS for stage rallying, when you take rally lessons or rally for the first time you soon realise that you're not as good as you thought you were!
Obviously off road rallying is completely different to road driving, but this is the place to be driving cars to their limits if that's what you want to do. That and track days of course!
It annoys me that there idiots in my age bracket causing my insurance to be so high, luckily in the past I've been able to prove to insurance companies that I've have performace car experience from the age of 18 with no accidents or claims (this is after they laugh at me once I've told them what vehicle I'm looking to insure)
These people are also giving Impreza driver as a whole a bad image, because you can pick up a classic for £2k lots of young people drive Imprezas now and for all the wrong reasons!
The reason I've had them since being 18 is because I'm a huge rally fan, Colin McRae and Richard Burns are my heros and it feels great being part of the Subaru community!
As you can see on the left of the screen, I have been a member of this forum since 2003! Which would have made me 13 or 14 when I registered!
I will be giving Keith Michaels a call when my renewal is due but I think they may struggle to match or beat Admirals Multi Car quote. We'll see, I've heard very good things about them so I'd love to go with them, got to look after the pennies though!
Thanks
Michael

Are you on the 205 GTi drivers forum by any chance? I sold my last Scoob after losing my previous job and bought a 205 GTi. That car taught me how to drive

good thread ive enjoyed reading this and agree and disagree with bits but surey any1 can tell a real driver from a screwdriver and it dont mean a young lad in a saxo/106 or corsa. before my engine went i had a young lad in a civic do a stupid overtake on a blind corner while trying 2 get me 2 race.i thought why bother but a week later i had a 40ish guy in a passat drive so close behind i could have saved fuel and let him push me home.my point is age is not a problem its a drivers mentality that is.as for insurence i first got my scoob at 25. import wrx standerd car paid £850 without any no claims(used on my work van) now 30 and i pay £425 but my gf is 24 has 6 yrs no claims and thay wont touch her.its just luck and deep pockets

After reading this i feel i should add to the thread, Ime 22 and been driving for 4 years, Ive had a 06 corsa 1.2, s reg astra van diesle, 03 plate astra van 1.6 petrol and now a volvo s60 t5 with around 280bhpp.
Ive been caught speedin 2 times well in excess of the limit. very silly driving speeds in the given surroundings it was in. Now ime 22 and have a high powerd car, do i still drive at silly speeds in residential areas? No the reason, experience and MATURITY. when i first passed i drove like a propper ballon, handbrake drifiting around round abouts, J turns on mc donalds car parks, drag racing at car cruises and so forth.
Now whehn ime in the T5 and a schoolboy racer tries it on i just laugh, watch him take off as fast as his little 1.1 can go and think, what if he had a blow out now? what if sum pulls out on him? what if as he goes around this bend at 70 when it says 50 there is a little bit of diesle ojn the round and he spins out and rolls of the bridge???
These thoughts have come with maturity 3 years ago i would put my foot down and done exactly what he did. So yes i agree young drivers are a liability, let alont young drivers getting behind the wheel of a powerfull machine !!!!!
No not all young drivers are complete *****, i was one but i grew out of it. I think its still harsh with the excessive insurance we have to pay now but i can see the insurers point of view.

im impressed with your honesty mate as alot of people say 1 thing and do another,i myself used 2 drive fast and show off in my cossy rep that at 22 had one of the first zetec turbo engines running 250bhp.at the time i was **** of the walk till i nearly wrote her off and since then ive been alot better then i even thought i would be.i drive a scoobie and im a target for boy racers and coppers like meny others on here but on some VERY RARE times late at nite on a road i know very very well ill have a blast but im on my own and the road is always empty.young or old it just is not smart to race on the public roads. and the insurance companys like meny others are out 2 get money hence the high premiums on young drivers if not then why not put prices up on the old people that drive at 40 in a 60 and people from abroad.thay still cause and are involved in alot of crashes at the end of the day.

I have nothing to hide and i am honest. I suppose thats why i have gottten so far in life allready lol.
I have pushed the T5 to its limiter once, it was on the m6 near preston, 3 am in the morning on my own so if i did crash it would only be me dead, As soon as i seen any other vehicle on the road i slowed down. To be honest 155 mph is abit fast for my liking and i havent/will not do it again, even the police patrol car hidden on an embankment must have thought F that were not catching him
We all speed now and then but its where and when that matters, ime not a fan of blasting around country lanes i think its far to dangerous but opening your machine up on an open road where you can see a good distance ahead is fine in my opinion

im 22 drive a 51 plate bugeye, i pay 1200fully comp 250 excess with 5yrs pnc (6 yrs in may) all mods declared and 10k a yr millage.
love some of the comments on here from the older lot questioning how 'youngersters' earn so much, we all get a state education just sum chose to take more advantage of it than other and make the most of it wen they leave school. so perhaps take a step back and congratulate the younger ones amongst us for showing abit of grit and working hard to afford their pride and joys and driving them every week

Im 29, 6 years no claims, 11 years experience, Hawkeye sport, 160bhp!
Best price: £845 with £1250 excess, after 6 hours searching because I now live in the Bradford area!
Compare the markets best quote was £1700.
£845 quote was with go compare.
Also get the top 3 quotes of each and try directly on their website, sometimes they come out cheaper.
